I have used it 3 times so far. Once on prime rib and twice for steaks. Along with the app, it provides plenty of useful information. The internal temperature, of course, but also the ambient temperature inside the oven or grill. You can set your desired temperature, it asks the type of meat you're cooking, and makes suggestions for internal temperature based on desired doneness. It sounds an alarm just before it reaches that temperature. Also, after it gages how quickly the temperature is rising, it estimates the length of cook time remaining. It claims to have 5 sensors inside the probe, which I assume is averaged to provide the temperature reading displayed. So many times with an instant read thermometer, you get different readings in the same piece of meat. I place the charging station near the oven or smoker. Then, I can walk quite a distance and still receive data from the Meater on my phone's app.I've used probes with wires that need to extend outside the oven. They are useful but seem limited because they need a flat surface nearby to hold the transmitter. That's not always possible. And instant read thermometers only tell the temperature at that moment, and let heat out of the oven, grill, or smoker. I hope it lasts a long while; it certainly isn't inexpensive.
