Supernatural children's feature. Near destitute after the death of her husband, a widow and her young children are approached by an elderly and mysterious solicitor, Mr. Blunden (Laurence Naismith), who asks the family to become the caretakers of a derelict, partly fire-damaged country mansion. The family takes up the offer and shortly after moving into a small cottage on the mansion's estate the youngsters, Jamie (Gary Miller) and Lucy (Lynne Frederick), meet up with a pair of ghosts, Sara (Rosalyn Landor) and Georgie (Marc Granger), two children who were killed in the fire at the mansion one hundred years ago.

A Classic in its own right
I first watched this film on the 'big screen' at the local picture house when I was young. Gosh, was it really 1972, I suddenly feel old. It was, still is, a wonderful film and one that all the family can enjoy without the worry of gratuitous swearing etc which seems to be the norm now. The film was directed by Lionel Jeffries (perhaps better known as an actor) who also directed 'The Railway Children'. The casting of Diana Dors as the obnoxious and scary Mrs. Wickens was inspirational . Laurence Naismith, a renowned actor, brought great elegance to his role as Mr. Blunden. In truth, all of the actors gave first class performances. The quality of the film itself is absolutely excellent. Iam happy to say this film is watched many times and not just saved for Christmas.

A childhood favourite
Such lovely memories of lazy afternoons and special days when this was shown on TV. For a long time it wasn't available on DVD or video and am so glad this has changed,Lots of good names in this film about two children leaving their London life for the country and about the two ghost children they meet there.Diana Dors excels as the awful Mrs Wickens who she plays with a true pantomime quality, it's hard to believe that Mrs Wickens is the glamorous Diana. She was the star of the film for me.The film has a lovely other worldly quality as we are left to puzzle about Mr Blunden who appears and disappears through the film. Is he a ghost? Or is he the ancestor of the original Mr Blunden?Brilliant film and worthy of five stars. It is worth noting that although this is a DVD, it is from an old film and the quality (which I found very good) wint match that of newer films.

Brand new
Looked for this film everywhere until I came on Amazon. My mum has wanted it for years and had such a struggle finding it at a respectable price. She was over the moon when it arrived and it works perfectly.

Better even than the Railway Children!
Fabulous, saw this at the cinema as a child when it originally came out and loved it. Saw it once, maybe twice, on TV again as a child before it seemed to disappear and could not then be bought on dvd at a fair price until its 2019 re-release. Getting this was a good decision, once again to gaze adoringly at the delightful Ms Frederick and lose myself in the engaging and enchanting storyline, acted brilliantly by all cast members. A real family treat that has lost none of its magic. Haunting, wistful and yet funny and dramatic, one of the seminal films of my childhood and still a favourite.

A much loved Christmas ghost story with an excellent cast and story ...
A much loved Christmas ghost story with an excellent cast and story line telling the story of a brother and sister who are persuaded by two children ghosts to go back into time and change events to save them from certain death.Laurence Naismith is great in is role as both "Mr Blundens and a special mention must go to the great Diana Dors who plays the evil Mrs Wickins who devises an evil plan to kill the to ghost children and gain Georges inheritance money.

A little treasure!
I'm reviewing the Second Sight dvd.Like a lot of people I saw this originally on tv in the shool holidays during the 70s. I don't think I saw the who thing through so it is nice to catch up.A great time travel story, beautifully shot and directed. All the children are excellent. The period detail is beautiful, and the score by Elmer Bernstein is fabulous. The climax of the film has the most convincing and frightening house fire on film. I wouldn't put this above The Railway Children, but it runs close second. The transfer is sharp and the colours good. There are a few blemishes on the print. On this showing, what a shame Lionel Jeffries didn't do an adaptation of "The Secret Garden" or "Tom's Midnight Garden."

Favourite children’s story
Great film of one of my favourite stories. Kids these days don’t seem to like this kind of book. It the storyline is imaginative and this is a great reenactment true to the book.
