Deadman Wonderland, Vol. 1 (Volume 1)

Deadman Wonderland is a very underrated Manga and definitely worth reading if your craving for more after the 12 episode Anime series

Built in the ruins of an earthquake ravaged Tokyo, Deadman Wonderland is Japan's only privately owned and operated prison. The prison is also the most popular tourist attraction in Japan as it is also a theme park where the prisoners work to entertaining the public. Ganta Igarashi was a normal high school student until a mysterious `Red Man' broke into his classroom and slaughtered his friends and classmates. Despite his innocence Ganta was convicted of the brutal murders and sentenced to death at the insane Deadman Wonderland.'Deadman Wonderland' is easily one of my favourite manga series and reading it again after having watched the anime version just confirms how good the series is. The series has some nice artwork and some interesting characters, especially the brilliantly mad Shiro. The series does get quite gory at times and there is some swearing as well so the series probably won't be to everyone's tastes but it is definitely entertaining and has a plot that always keeps me interested. We can only hope that another publisher picks up the series now that Tokyopop has gone bust.

Well where to start?Plot is brilliant - A kid gets charged of mass murder of his classmates when he is the only survivor.The story follows him in the "Deadman Wonderland" prison.There are quite a few quirky characters in this series. (a lot of which appear later on in the series)But all in all this series is well worth reading.There isn't too much blood and gore in this - on the back of the book it's rated 16+My copy of this came today which pleased me! It was in lovely condition and is now taking it's pride of place on my bookshelf!If your a fan of psychological/action/horror manga then this is for you. But Shoujo and Romance fans steer well clear!

Trying to come to terms with what I think of this series, maybe will come to light the deeper you go into the story, the premise is fantastic, the futuristic prison with inmates competing for credits so they can live, all to an audience baying for blood. I just can't see the point (at this time) of the female girl who drops in from time to time
