Great for independent reading/phonics refresh
Usborne has two different phonics readers series. A small format book series is available individually in paperback or hardcover, though the paperbacks are all collected in a single boxed set. That boxed set of small format phonics readers is an amazing early option for reading with your child as it includes quiz questions at the end and is clearly structured for reading with your child. BUY THE BOX SET OF SMALL FORMAT BOOKS FIRST even though the large format books are arguably simpler and described as "first readers". The larger-format series adds value when your little reader is more independent and can be trusted to handle something less rugged than a board book. These books have notes for parents, but are generally written for independent reading. Because the books are likely simpler than books you've been reading with your child, they'll have few problems mastering them independently while retaining and refreshing their phonics skills. There's a box set of these, but it is incomplete and I can honestly recommend most every book in this series in addition to the small-format series referenced earlier.

We originally had the Usborne Phonics readers (the boxed set) and my son was ready for the next step but not quite ready for the "big" books... this book has longer sentences with some rhyming and other sounds that are a little more challenging. My son loves this book and I love it because it gives him just the right amount of challenges. Perfect for the in between reader.

One of the best in this series
One of the best in this series! So cute! And good 'oa' words as well as so much rhyming. My 3 year old asked to have this one read over and over again.
