We don't find whole nutmegs at our local grocery store and knew we'd find something on Amazon. The nutmegs are aromatic and flavorful when grated. Much fresher than the already ground stuff when you can grate your own whenever you need it. A winner for us!

EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!

I LOVE fresh nutmeg, and was soooo looking forward to receiving these. I'm very disappointed, though - I don't know how long they sat in the warehouse, but they're hard as a rock! I can't even begin to grind them with my nutmeg grater. There wasn't even any nutmeg scent when I opened the bag! I will say the seeds are pretty, though... Maybe they'll soften up a bit if I soak them in hot water... More research for me, for FRESH nutmeg.

My order contained several cracked/broken/rotten nutmeg seeds, and the ones that were actually whole were very dusty and dry all the way to the core. It suggests that this stuff has been sitting around in storage for a long time, possibly years. The flavor was weak as a result. Its still better than buying pre-ground nutmeg powder...but not by enough to make it worth the trouble. The only reason I gave this two stars instead of one is because I understand that I may have just gotten a bad batch; maybe other people actually get the fresh nutmeg they paid for. I personally wouldn't order from this seller/brand again, though.

Ever smelled fresh nutmeg, I mean the shavings right off the nut? They smell so fresh and good, it is intoxicating to the olfactory senses. These are organic, and they really do send you six (at least that is what I got); you get them via U.S. mail, and it takes a couple of weeks for them to arrive (don't expect them in two days). They come out of a place in Florida, and they are not produced in China (these days so many things are). They are organic, so there are no toxins on them. If you check prices for nutmeg, these are pretty reasonable if you only use the spice occasionally. (Next you need a good grater, but that is another story.)

There's nothing like freshness in everything you eat. The difference between canned and freshly prepared is well worth a little extra work. I purchased a kitchen find rasp from Amazon several years ago and use it to shave off the amount needed and store the remaining until needed.
