Excellent small fixed spool reel on first use caught 6 Rainbow Trout one over 3lb in weight excellent reel

Have not got to try it yet but seems decent for the money. A real Daiwa reel for £20+ at least you know what to expect from a company like Daiwa compared with the Chinese reels. I've put some line on and I must say it's perfect line lay not what you expect from such a cheap reel. Very nice black and silver colour. Quite glad it does not have an anti reverse switch as they usually break and find them pointless. I did not give it 5 stars as I was expecting it to be a bit bigger as Daiwa sizes are different to Shimano etc. A 5000 Daiwa is equivalent to 8000 size in most reels so I was expecting the reel to be a bit bigger but it seems to be the standard 4000 size. This size will work well with a 9 or 10ft rod but may be a bit small for an 11ft bass rod which is what I was hoping for. Nevertheless I can still use it and I'm very happy with my purchase.

All fixed spool reels eventually fail when exposed to saltwater, even those that cost hundreds, I've been there and bought the t-shirt! For that reason I always use cheap reels on the boat/kayak and get a couple of years of them before replacing and it's a absolute toss up between this Daiwa and the Shimano Catana ( https://amzn.to/2XBhUzN ) in terms of what is best. I've bought at least half a dozen of each and they are both fantastic reels. This Daiwa has a smooth reliable drag and very solid construction. It's more than capable of dragging up some very big fish of the bottom.

Great quality reel but only has a one way clutch ! No good if your into drop shot fishing.
