Sugar Detox

Has started to changed my life.
I found this book to be really beneficial. Though I have no weight issues and never have, I love cakes and desserts and eat them daily. I sort of rely on them for the afternoon pick me up. This started after I gave birth to my second kid. And I've sort of become a slave to the sugar craving. In addition to that I was recently diagnosed with a Thyroid Nodule. Although I don't have a thyroid condition, it's a swell/cyst or inflammation on my thyroid. For the first time in my life I became interested in improving my health. But I never believed I had a problem; I eat well, no soda, no sugar in coffee, no alcohol, no candy... And I work out 2-3x a week with an active life style. But my skin looks dull to me and I'm obsessed with pastries and doughnuts and cupcakes and chocolate (need I say more?). Did I really have a problem? I read the book and after each chapter was really impressed with all the knowledge I was gaining on food and ingredients and their effects on the body. I'd wake up each morning ready to start the 3 day detox.... But couldn't make it past breakfast. Finally halfway through the book and after a previous day of classic sugar overdose at a birthday party I started the day 1 detox. Worst day of my life. By day 2 I was certain this was the stupidest decision of my life. But I followed the detox plan exactly. By day 3 I was craving anything yummy or sweet like crazy, I felt starved and deprived... But I made it through. I couldn't go back, I had come so far. I had to prove to myself I could do 3 days, just 3 days! And by the morning of day 4 (and after pooping a five gallon bucket worth of pooh) I had lost 4 lbs and felt amazing. I was a believer, not from the weight loss, but from the sheer amount of stuff coming out the back end (if you know what I mean) despite putting so little in. I never had a low energy point in the afternoons despite just eating veggies, protein and nuts. So I continues with week 1 (and was overly excited about the diet additions like apple and dairy). I'm now at the end of week 1 and still have the occasional sugar craving, but despite sugar being everywhere I refuse to put it in my body - that's an iron will that has now stood the test over a dozen times through out this week. I'm about to start week 2 and am impressed that I've come this far. I couldn't have ever done a diet without the incredible information in this book. It has transformed how I look at food, health and my body. I'm glad to have kicked the habit and now have control and choice in the matter.

Well worth its weight in gold
I picked up this book in order to help with cravings for sugars, etc.The food sections of the book were great! I felt like that authors did a good job of relating the science (with references) of what sugars do to your body and gave you tools to make the changes in dietary habits more sustainable. I'm not poo-pooing the skincare sections; there is a lot of good information there, too, it just wasn't my focus in reading the book.I found 97% of their recipes to be delicious and easy to prepare. What I lacked for variety in their recipes, with their tools, I was able to find suitable recipes on the internet and in cookbooks I owned. My only issue is that some of the breads they recommend later in the plan aren't necessarily that readily available.I would recommend this book (and have). At the beginning, I couldn't imagine cutting out the things they ask you to cut, but now I can hardly believe I was so hooked on them.

All the info you need in one place
As far as sugar detox goes, you probably could find this info on the web, but it's a lot easier just to buy the book and not waste hours searching for info. I liked this book because it made me realize I can live without sugar and it has some decent recipes. What I did not like was the 3-day detox part of the book. In one part of the book the author says that not eating carbs is like trying to drive a car without gas- yet then tells you not to eat hardly any carbs for 3 days and that if you have any negative symptoms, it's simply withdrawal from sugar and to push through it. I think that part of the book is very unhealthy and dangerous. The first day I had no energy and a very bad headache. The next morning I woke up and could barley get out of bed I was so weak. It felt like I was going to pass out. That was not "withdrawal." It's called, "your body can't function without carbs" and it's not safe to be on the verge of passing out all day, let alone when you have young children to care for. That being said, I just skipped directly to the first week and then I was fine. Also, some of the recipes include foods that you have been told not to eat for a certain week, so that is a little confusing. Overall, good book if you start on week one and want to decrease sugar intake.

Great book for revamping how you eat!
If you are looking to significantly reduce your dependence on sugar, this is the book for you! It is designed to make you feel better on the inside and improve how you look on the outside. It offers a month-long plan to follow so that by the end, you are eating a significantly upgraded version of a well-balanced diet. It has a meal plan to follow, numerous recipes that are really good, and even an exercise plan. I haven't tried the exercise plan myself because it would've been too much of a change on top of changing my diet. None of the exercises were crazy. I just haven't found a good time of day to start doing it. :) There is also a skin regimen to follow. I just maintained my current skin regimen. I love this book because it's scientifically based, easy to understand, and I could actually stick to it 90% of the time. My clothes started to fit me better after the first 10 days. If you are committed to making a life change to the way you eat but need some help, this book is for you!

Rejuvenating!
This book and program are amazing! The authors do an excellent job of walking you through the science and benefits but making it easy to understand and even easier to implement the program. The first three days are killer if you are as addicted to sugar as I was, but once you make it to day 4 they give you wine and cheese! I'm in the middle of the program and have lost nearly 10 pounds and my skin looks rejuvenated. People keep commenting on how I am glowing and look energized. They are right, my energy and my body feel amazing. I've been struggling to lose the weight of my second child for over a year and this has put me back to pre-baby weight. Highly recommend this book.

Great book and diet
This book is very easy to follow and diet is infinitely doable. I'm dipping in and out of it as I work through the diet. Very pleased after 7 days with my weight loss of 6lb. I no longer feel bloated, my ankles are less swollen and my body less stiff. Being an american book the shopping lists are less useful in UK but do provide some guidance with the foods you can eat. Having it on the Kindle makes it really easy to get to relevant chapters and to all the useful bits through use of notes. There are a few useful tables in the book and these don't enlarge like the text can but they are just about readable. I can't recommend this book and diet highly enough.

CONFRONTING THE ENEMY - SUGAR
I took this on to accompany someone who needed to shed some pounds for medical reasons, and therefore I wasn't going to make a big deal of it. However, as the pounds fell away very early on, I took it more seriously. Of course with all detox treatments, you have headaches and feel weaker than usual, but nothing that can't be handled. As I moved from the initial detox to eating more, I noticed an increase in energy, which I at first attributed to the contrast with the first three days, but then I realised I actually did have more energy. And the pounds were flying off - and I am a tallish man and very far from overweight. My stomach flattened and I lost my craving for sugary highs. So when allowed fruit it tasted very sweet. It takes some effort finding your way round the book as the index lacks detail, but once I got the hang of it I began improvising within the guide lines. By week three I had lost ten pounds. After a month you have to rely on searching out the recipes from permitted foods, which takes more effort than the early weeks, but I now know what can and cannot be eaten and although I put back a few pounds when I started eating something approaching a normal( but sugar free) diet, after maintaining my weight level, I started losing again. I am now on week 8 and am 11 pounds lighter than when I started. I would suggest reading about the permitted foods because knowledge helps, but otherwise I would say this is a useful book. I was never one hooked on sweet foods, or desserts, or chocolate(although chocolate is permitted)but I am even less so now. A good book and one in keeping with the current thinking: SUGAR IS THE NEW VILLAIN. I would recommend it, if only to make people look again at their eating habits, and to be more discriminating in their choices.
