Lionel Junction North Pole Central Set

Overall very happy. Looks great, the little ones really love it. The one negative is the electric sounds. I love the O gauge sound but this train has synthetic chugging (it’s loud and don’t like it) and a couple more effects you can turn on. Unfortunately, the manual shows a switch to shut off sounds, but there was just a spot for the switch but no switch. Called Lionel who offered to fix it under warrranty in 6-8 weeks, which would mean it’s gone till way after Christmas so I exchanged on Amazon and low and behold the new one had no switch. I was able to easily open the engine and unplug the sound module from the circuit board easily enough. Looks great, fast rack is very secure. Would be five star if not for the sound issue.

My assumption is that it is impossible to ship this train and track without the track cracking. With the first train I ordered, all of the pieces of track except one were cracked. Then I did an exchange, and the second train came. Every single piece of track was cracked in this one. It is hard to notice the cracks right away, because the track is clear and you can see all of the wires running through it, but if you inspect them closely, you’ll see that there are cracks everywhere. I don’t know if this would affect the functionality of the train and track as over the years, I am certain they would continue to spread. For this reason, I chose to return the train altogether. I didn’t feel comfortable paying over $300 for a product that repeatedly arrived broken.

Something that made a difference to me concerning getting a train for Christmas is the legacy along with the quality. This brand of train has been around for a long, long time and this is definitely what I’ve come to expect from what they offer. This is made very well, it’s got a classic look and feel to it but it’s almost got the quality of an old-school original. The LED lights are a very nice touch and the fact the train is powered like the other ones that I’ve had over the years makes me feel a lot better about this set. Loved this train, it was so fun and my son loved it. The remote kept getting disconnected and wouldn't connect to the train, tried the app, that didn't work either. Train would move for like 2 seconds then stop moving, ended up throwing it out after like 1 month. Waste of money.
