When I was a kid, I went to a husband/wife dentist and hygienist team who were our neighbors and we trusted them. They made sure to take care of our teeth well, gave us all the fluoride treatments we could get, and very specific flossing instructions that have continued to keep my gums in good shape for like three decades now. First of all, you don't have to floss EVERY DAY, but you do need to do it thoroughly at least 2 or 3 times a week. Thorough flossing won't be the most comfortable experience in the world, but it will WORK. You take a good sized piece of floss, wrap around the index fingers of your hands, insert the tight floss between your teeth, and WRAP THE FLOSS AROUND THE ROOT to really dig out all the dirt as you're doing it. It might bleed a little. That's ok. If you do this 2-3 times a week, the bleeding should subside and your dentist will be impressed. IMPORTANTLY: YOU DON'T NEED FANCY OR SPECIAL FLOSS TO DO THIS. Yes I ordered one little dental floss from Amazon. I needed that little "extra" to get the free shipping and I was quite pleased with this item. It was much cheaper than purchasing in the store and I actually will purchased this type of dental floss again! It is thick and the was is substantial so that the floss does not shred, which is a big problem with many other brands.
