Perennial classic in sight reading instruction
I am a music theorist and studio classical music teacher. There are LOTS of sightreading and sightsinging methods - but we all return to BONA.

It's fantastic! The book starts from the very basics of sight reading and builds from it. It adds more syncopation as you get deep in to it and really has variety of rhythms that extend from the excersises.

The One and Only
When I studied at the conservatory this book was used to whack us into shape (those of us who were great musicians but lousy sight readers - who were a 'little shaky' on reading rhythms). The teacher turned on a metronome, we conducted to keep the beat, and we recited the rhythms. After a while - a short while - you will have no problem reading rhythms. It's not particularly painful work, a little boring at times. However, your efforts will be well rewarded. If you can learn to type or do a crossword puzzle, you can do this.

This is one of those books that has sat on a shelf and not had much use if I am honest. But I can't fault something that I haven't given much attention to!
