Straightforward and seems sturdy
I have never replaced a light socket before, but I went at it on an antique brass footed lamp. I had my husband double check my work because I really wasnโt quite positive that I had the right wires, but that was just my lack of confidence - he confirmed I had it correct. I got the antique brass color and it matches my existing harp, arms and post beautifully.

Great!!! ("ribbed" means raised strip on side)
My parents had two old lamps from when they were first married in the 1960s. The lamps sat in storage for decades. I asked to have them because they reminded me of my childhood home. I spent a lot of $$$ getting them shipped from California to Virginia. The old cords and sockets were pretty sus, so I ordered these replacements. They were perfect! It's a. pretty easy install, but the instructions about the ribbed wire were confusing. Luckily, someone else posted the information in their review. The ribbed wire has a bump running down the side. Here are before and after pictures, plus a bonus picture of the lamps with cute new shades. I've moved cross country several times, but this makes my place feel like home. I would have been hesitant to use these lamps with the old hardware, so I'm super happy with this purchase.

Perfect for my antique lamp
This was exactly what I needed to refurbish my grandmothers antique lamp, very easy to put together. Works great and the antique finish looks perfect.

A plea from the amateur...
Let's start with: the rewiring worked, the lamp looks fantastic, and it was my first time rewiring a lamp--or ANYTHING. My last class in electricity was in 6th grade 50 years ago, OK? And I liked it that way. Then a domestic disaster involving copious amounts of black enamel paint poured into the bulb socket (don't ask) forced me either to rewire or trash an heirloom lamp. Ugh. It took me FOUR HOURS until I was satisfied that I'd done it perfectly and well enough to risk a current, but it worked. My one request to the manufacturer: PLEASE consider marking the wire tips to indicate which wire is which. I sure can't tell by the indicators in the directions or by any of the various YouTube hints. Rough/smooth wire? Ummm, no. I resorted to examining the plug for the large prong and carefully tracing the wire to its raw end--three times to be sure. It worked, but I wasn't confident about it. Anyway, I would buy this kit again especially because of the long cord, the nice finish, and the fact that the wires were already stripped. For those of you who know what you're doing, this would have been a 15-minute job. I received no compensation whatsoever for this review.

Buy It
This is a great kit and easy to use. The "ribbed" side has a raised plastic edge running down the length of the wire. You can't see it but can feel it .

Works great for Vintage Lamp
Purchased a lamp at thrift and switched the original broken wire for this. So was easy to install and much cheaper then buying a new lamp.

Necessary replacement post puppy
Fostering puppies. Puppies apparently liked spicy cords. Such liking resulted in my mother in laws very antique lamps getting chomped upon. Fortunately, Amazon provided a cheap and easy fix. These were literally one for one, 14 minutes and boom. Lamp works again. As a non-disclosure, no puppies were injured in the chomping of the lamp cord.

Made in the USA
I looked at dozens of these but wanted made in The USA. I bought two to rewire my Grandmother's table lamps. I am pleased with the quality and ease at which I was able to switch out the wiring. Suggest watching a You Tube video though as the directions were minimal and if you haven't done this before you may need the video to guide you

Ribbed wire
This is perfect for re-wiring an old lamp as long as the path from lamp base to neck is relatively straight or wide. Like other reviewers, I had trouble figuring out which wire was the ribbed neutral wire. I am a total beginner. The "ribbing" is vertical raised stripes down the edge of one side of the plastic covered wire. I stared, magnified, touched, and got a second opinion... finally used my tongue and that makes it more obvious which is the ribbed wire. The lamp works great now!
