Four Stars
This is the Big Finish 40th anniversary special for Blake's 7, and is a fun listen. There are two hour long episodes and one hour long Behind the Scenes disc consisting of interviews with the cast. Most of the original cast make appearances. All the acting is absolutely superb. The soundscape is excellent. Also in the dialogue there are a few little nods towards the TV series that fans might catch and enjoy. I loved the Behind the Scenes disc with the cast reminiscing about the TV series. The first story (Project Aquitar) takes place during series A. Unfortunately, with the sad passing of Gareth Thomas and David Jackson, the writers have had to create a story without the characters of Blake and Gan. They manage to do this quite effectively with Avon narrating parts of the story to another character. However, in place of Blake we have Avalon (originally in Project Avalon) with the odd result that Avalon gets more lines and more action than the original characters. Vila has very little to say or do in this first episode. This is main reason why I gave this set four stars. As a 40th Anniversary set, I would have liked the story to concentrate on the original characters, rather than a one-off character who was only in one episode of the TV series. Also at times during this story it seems that Avon appears to be rather hen-pecked, with Jenna, Cally & Avalon all having a go at him simultaneously. The story also presupposes that you believe that Avon survived Gauda Prime, as Avon's narration takes place after that event. The second story (Dissent) takes place during series C. This episode is my favourite of the two. Once again Avon occasionally narrates, and once again Avalon takes centre stage with the original Blake's 7 cast being more on the periphery, though not quite to the extent as the first story. Each story is engaging enough and very listenable. As ordinary episodes they would work very well, however, as a 40th Anniversary special it falls just a little short - this feels more like Avalon's 7 to be honest. However, having said all that I do like these discs and I think fans of Blake's 7 will enjoy them.

Great audios with original cast - excellent
I used to watch Blake's 7 years ago when it was first aired but didn't realise that audio versions were available following on after the original televised series ended. Since discovering that there is a whole series of them I must admit to becoming addicted all over again. I especially like the audio versions with the original cast as you can visualise each story as you listen. Really enjoyable. Good story lines with different writers. So glad I found them. This audio The Way Ahead is just one of an excellent series.
