I'm a welding student and my school doesn't provide us with tungsten, so most of us got this brand from Amazon. The school let us use some random short piece of crap for our first class, but we had to have our own ASAP. (Student Prime shipping got it to me in time for my next class!) No complaints about the Midwest tungsten from myself or any of my classmates. Since I'm doing my first TIG class I don't have anything to compare these to, but I've asked some of the more experienced students and they really like this brand compared to others they have tried.I bought these from recommendations from my teacher and other classmates, and it had really good reviews here too. Perfect mid-range price point since I'm still dipping a lot! As I'm improving my skills I notice that the arc starts easily, and can take the abuse I'm giving them. They are WAY better than the random brand that the school lent us the first day of class! I'll continue to purchase from Midwest, and my classmates are too.Just like other reviewers have said; the paint on the top is too thick to stick into the torch without inserting it from the back. I just rubbed the excess off on my bench and that fixed the issue. Only took enough paint off to feed it in without snagging and can still see what color it is.

Tungsten electrodes are something I typically buy at a welding shop as a convenience item. When I need it right now I'll still walk into a brick and mortar store, but the local stores carry these for over twice the price. Amazon Prime is usually as close to "now" as I need them, so I gave these a try. I did want to offer more of a review than saying that they arrived on time and worked as advertised. They did arrive on time as expected, but the nice thing is that the seller sent an email immediately and included a very nice PDF tungsten chart in the email. I put these through their paces yesterday to give an honest performance review. I was a little leery about them as I ground the electrodes because there is a little surface discoloration on them. Not much, but not as shiny as I expected. In the end it makes no difference. These perform exceptionally well for both DC and AC weld processes. No arc wandering, easy arc start, and exceptional electrode life - even when running higher power levels than is appropriate for the size. On AC the electrode balls nicely and produces a very stable arc. I ran a beautiful bead on a lap joint with 0.063" aluminum as a test and the arc and bead were consistent on an 8" pass. Unless you are welding exotic materials, the 1.5% lanthanated electrodes allow you to have one tungsten for all of your welding applications.
