A simple, effective solution
The WD My Passport for Mac gave up the ghost after an upgrade to El Capitan. Granted, it was about 4 years old ... I tried every means and recommendation to breath life back into the wee box and ended up hating it with a passion. I am still totally unclear where the fault lies, with Apple of WD. In total, it must have stolen 8 hours of my life, like an evil genie in a bottle. That's about 8 good walks, 5 great meals prepared and a eaten, 8 hours of blissful kip, at least a WHOLE NOVEL read or, on a duvet day, 8 hours of Game of Thrones, back to back. I mention this because I am 66 years old and quite frankly could do without time stealers, if you get my drift? So, I decided enough is enough and ordered this Bipra, after a bit of research. I had not heard of the brand and given it is not that expensive, I was a tad concerned whether it would live up to the job. This is a 'first impression' review, since I only backed up all my stuff yesterday. So, it's a box thingy with 'bipra' engraved on its surface. It has a USB cable. You plug one end in the box, the other in the computer. You open time machine and identify the drive. A flashing blue light, like a cyclops eye and your screen tells you it is working to save the day. It also says it will take time (in my case, 4 hours). Great! time for a glass of wine whilst cooking!Later on, I returned. All my stuff is happily at home in Time Machine and it backed up again fine this morning. Simple eh?:-)

Not worth it
It worked for a while but eventually stopped working and it was bad quality and the usb cable it came with was useless and had 2 USB ports. Wouldn’t buy again or recommend.

I've had a horrible experience with this product.
Bipra 2.5 inch 500GB USB 2.0 Mac Edition Portable External Hard Drive - Silver . After it arrived I plugged it straight in keen to transfer some the heavier photo files from my mac book in order to free up some space to help it perform better. After five precious albums of photos were uploaded successfully and eleted from my mac I was horrified to find that the next time I went to use it, a few hours after, my mac no longer recognised it and nor did my imac. I therefore cannot back up the photos anywhere else and I have no option now but to reformat the drive and loose my precious photos if I want to use it. I'm totally devastated and won't go near a Bipra product again.

So far so good
Wonderful.Cheap as chips for my MacBook Pro backups. My only itch to scratch was that it states specifically for Mac but you still need to format and journal with the disc thingy software. This has allowed me to free up a 1 Tb external drive I was wasting on backups. Hope it remains reliable.
