Ideal
These secateurs do what they say on the tin. They're easy to use and cut through most branches fairly easily (a thin piece of bamboo was a bit of a struggle, I'll go back to using a small saw for that) with those that I bought them for - fruit trees - being perfectly fine. The come with a replacement blade and spare spring as it says which I haven't yet needed to use so cannot comment on how easy/difficult it is to fit. They feel solid, fit nicely in my hand and given their size and build I imagine they'll be comfortable for a man to use as well, though I cannot speak to that. A great buy overall

Blade sharp at first but soon looses its edge.
Mid range price, replacement blade and spring are useful as neither appear to be particularly robust.Orange plastic cover on the handle has already split

Follow up, Bought to replaced two pairs of Gardena clippers, which are total rubbish in comparison.
Burgon and Ball made no fuss about supplying a replacement screw that had gone missing. Sent by return of post after I sent my email. Very polite and exceedingly helpful. I just said I had bought them through Amazon, they accepted that as proof of purchase. The Burgon and Ball Clippers are great and they were bought to replace two almost new Gardena clippers, where the none replaceble 'spring' broke on both. Gardena (Husqvarner same people) were contacted and to be honest they did not give a ******* , so will never buy anything they make from now on. May look like modern sophisticated design but really very poor design and lacking in robustness.Gardena so unhelpful and the clippers supposedly had a 25year guarantee, but they wanted proof of purchase, which I could not find. Hardly think these Gardena clippers were being sold 25 years ago!Bought the Burgon and Ball Clippers on basis of RHS recommendation. Do the jobs very well, and a spare blade and spring supplied which is an excellent idea. Good price too. Now after much use are still going strong ( on same blade too)Never again anything Gardena!! or Husqvarner!!

Poor quality fitments spoil it completly for me, not worth the price, no idea why RHS recommend it.
I read the reviews, and a few people commented on problems using these cutters, but I thought the RHS would not recommend them if they were not very good quality.I went straight out to the garden to test them. The first and most obvious problem was the poor quality spring fitted between the grips, which I feel is allowed to open too wide, as it bulges out to one side in use, (when closing), and trapped a piece of skin at the base of my fore finger cutting into my hand, (the edges of the spring are sharp). I then tried using them turned over, which did help, but not right for right handed cutting.During use, the blade guard which keeps them closed, actually can ride up alongside the anvil, allowing it to partially open. On inspection, the blade lock as it is called, is about half the width of the part it engages with, and a cheap "sprung" locking washer allows the locking blade to tilt, which allows it to easily ride up, (the screw holding it was tight). I lost my "good" cutters after 12 years of use, suspect they ended up in the green bin, and though these look very similair, they are not as good.I consider these not comfortable to use, not good value for money, and I am now aware if I am not careful, they can "bite". I tried cutting several thickneses of cuttings, and found the need to rotate the cutters around the wood as soon as the wood got over about half an inch, and when i tried an inch thick, there was no way it would go through, I could have rotated them all day.I may try replacing the cheap spring washer with a proper spacing washer on the blade lock, and perhaps I can make a shield for the spring, but if not succesful, these will be going back.Very dissapointed, and a sore hand to boot.Edit: I did replace the spring washer on the blade guard, and found the one fitted was too thin, and allowed the blade guard to wobble. The new one I fitted is stronger and about twice as thick, and the guard operates smoother now. I replaced the spring between the grips with the spare supplied, and that does not bulge in use.If the supplier reads this, then please send me a replacement spring.

Good quality at a good price
I have owned the smaller model for years and it's as good new so it was an obvious choice when I needed something larger. An excellent product.Service and delivery also 5 ☆

Good product
You won't really get a better product than this ... except. The bypass lever is right next to wear my thumb naturally lays. This means when I squeeze to cut I end up closing the bypass about 20% of the time. It's then impossible to undo the bypass without holding it in my other hand and then turning it off with my cutting hand because the lever is now too far away from my thumb when the secateurs are open. Very irritating.
