🎶 Elevate Your Sound Game!
The Hotone Captain Sunset is a 5-watt Class AB guitar amp head that combines pure analog circuit design with high gain distortion, inspired by the legendary Soldano SLO 100. It features a cab simulator for direct output, an FX loop for effects integration, and a robust 18V power supply for exceptional sound quality.

Achieves intended goal
Before I bought this, I did research. I watched video reviews about this specific model as well as other Hotone Nano amps. I went with this one based on price and the fact that it was intended to "sound like" a Soldano. I knew it was small, heard many people say it's really small, and still when I opened the box I thought "wow, that is really small." I don't know how close it sounds to a Soldano, but it sounds pretty good for the price range. As others noted, there is pretty much no clean sound with this. I had the gain all the way off and it was still a little distorted/breaking up with a moderate output humbucker. But the distortion is not the typical "white noise fuzz through a towel" sound you get from many budget modeling amps, it sounds a lot better; the harmonics are distinct, and the break-up is response to how you play. The EQ controls seem to all do what they're supposed to; they're smooth and the change in tone correlates well with rotation of the knobs. It's going to get a lot of use.

Tiny with plenty of gain
Really cool sound. Nice buttery distortion. Wish that it had a second channel for clean. It's loud but, not loud enough to play with a drummer.

Great practice/recording amp.
Great little recording amp/practice amp. Currently using for practice w/o a cabinet paired, using headphones and this amp offers features that rival other combos in this range. Sounds good but do note that there is no dedicated “clean” channel, I think they offer another product for that. Otherwise, it offers some great tone.

very pleasantly surprised
So far very pleased with a sound this little amplifier can produce it may not be 100% Soldano but the modeling these days is quite impressive

Spend your money on EHX .44 cal
Cheap muddy sound. No definition unless the treble is cranked and then it sounds somehow worse.

Would buy if it weren't for the buzz
Sounds good, buzzing I cant live with.

Power!
More than enough power to drive 10" 50 watt speaker in cab . I bought high gain version, but I'm still able to get a good clean tone by turning down gain all the way, I bought mine before the price hike, ie at £30 , so for me a very good buy

A great high gain amp head for those who like heavy guitar
Despite its small frame, this amp really delivers epic sounds. Perfect for a travel/practice/gig set-up. High gain is the name of the game for this amp and it does not disappoint! Surprisngly it even powers a Marshall 4x12 cab at a gig level volume. I think I may buy of the others in the range. Enjoy the gain!
