OTC 5942 8-Piece XZN 'Super Short' Socket Bit Set

I bought these for their versatility in terms of clearances. I use them in a ratcheting wrench, and it gave me the most room possible. On another bolt, I used them with an extension on a ratchet. Love them! Unfortunately, I lost one! ;(. Working late, I left it stuck in the head of a bolt. I heard it shoot off god knows where, on my test drive. Grrr. Working late. I wish I could replace just the size I lost! I highly recommend these! BTW, this was a salt and rust vehicle. Sockets were very solid, and I had no flex in the feel of them. Just be smart and clean out the head of bolt with a pick, and pound them into the head of bolt, before trying to turn it. No need to damage a fastener if it doesn't get good purchase. This socket set is very well made and very strong and has an easy to clean, non-chrome finish. These extra short sockets for use in cramped spaces have an external hex shape so that a box end or open end wrench can be used in addition to the socket wrench - for extra torque ability. I used mine with an electric impact wrench with a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter for the 12mm bit to remove flywheel-to-driveshaft bolts on a Porsche 944 Turbo. Worked like a charm. The bit fit very tightly into the bolt heads and did not slip out under torque. Note that the male 'triple'star' or XZN bit shape is a precision, high torque drive bit for high torque fasteners found on may European vehicles (Porsche, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc.). Great price too!

If you own a German car you will need these everything is pretty much triple squares I have not broken or stripped any of these tools make sure you sit it all the way down once I didn't, it slipped but luckily it didn't damage the tool too bad just a small nic.

Great for those hard to reach bolts on the rear suspension of Mercedes when doing alignments. That was my main reason for buying em. Standard sized bits are too big to get back there without taking everything apart.

Saved me a lot of time removing side mount bracket on vw Gti, perfect size can fit with ratchet on. If you follow torque specs per vehicle manufacture, you won’t brake them. I haven’t have a vehicle that someone went crazy on the bolt and I would have trouble removing to test the real strength of these but the do look promising. Definitely a too you want to keep in the tool box.

Very useful if you regularly work on Audi, VW, Mercedes, and majority of the European vehicles. The tool's plastic holder may benefit from some refinement though.

These days, one does not have too many options when it comes to a products place of origin. With tools, it seems like the people of Taiwan have much higher standards for quality. The CV joints on a VW are connected to a flange using bolts that require this tool. Either someone at the factory torqued these higher than recommended, or 15 years of rust locked them in place. No matter the case, I put a lot of twist on one of these bits and the first loud snapping sound was the bolt breaking loose, and not the bit. I removed 6 very stubborn bolts with no problem.These are very well made, and if space is tight these are the best of two worlds. You can use a socket or combination wrench on the outside, or the appropriate size square drive on the inside.The machining is top-shelf as the bits fit tightly into the 12 point socket bolt with no slop.I highly recommend these bits for anyone who ones an Audi or VW.

As an Audi/Porsche tech, these things have been amazing. The low profile and the ability to use a wrench on it is the best feature I have seen on any socket. Every socket I have used so far has gripped the bolts perfectly; not too tight, not too loose. I have even applied 85ft-lbs of torque without breaking these things. This has been one of the best investments I have made in the last 10 years.

Great set! Low profile with the option to use a wrench is amazing! Snap on doesn’t sell a complete set, and the Mac set is too long for tight areas like between a door and pillar on Volkswagen’s. They seem strong enough to put some pressure on them too. Haven’t broken one yet!

Used to get to the bolts on the rear bearing for my Audi A6 and fit and was able to use long wrench to crack the bolts loose
