DR Strings.
I bought these for my '53 Gibson. They are great. I use the 11's on my Strat and Tele. The round core seems more solid and acually feels better ... to me . At 69 I have tried them all .. strings. I read D Trucks used the ... I figure he is not dumb ... so I tried them. 2 chords ..3 nots ...oh yeah these work. If you need a solid sound ..fat and clean...try a set of 11's. I often swap the 12 on the heavier set to 13 ...jazz.

Ideal for arch top guitars
Round-core pure nickel strings sound fantastic on a carved arch top guitar. They offer much warmer tone than nickel wound, and have a softer feel under your fingers than hex-core pure nickel strings. I'd been using a more famous brand of pure nickel strings which are hex core, and thought I'd try the DR round core with a wound G string. I'm glad I did. If you're tired of dull-sounding flat wounds or overly bright nickel round wounds, and want a string that captures the full tone of your guitar, you should try the DR pure nickel 12's. Nice price, too.

Sound awesome on a vintage parlor guitar!
I purchased these strings because they are nickel round cores which (from what I've been able to find out) is the exact makeup of strings that were available in the 20's & 30's. Since I have a couple of parlor guitars from that period I decided I'd like to hear them with period strings! These are my new favorite strings! Not only do they sound great but they are also very nice on the fingers (prob. due to the round core). I only wish that they made these in a 13 gauge!

They're the best strings I have played
I absolutely love these strings - the tone and articulation these provide are second to none. They do make a little more string slide sounds than some other strings, so do be careful if you are recording, but a lot of this is due to technique and can easily be corrected.

Pure Blues: My favorite string set.
These are my favorite strings of all time. I have played many gauges of Pure Blues and have never been disappointed. This is a pure nickel wrap, which is not the same as nickel plated strings. They may have slightly less output than other, more modern sets. That is okay with me. They intonate well, sound awfully nice, are of relatively low tension, last a long time, and feel great. This is the perfect "vintage sound" string for me.

I like the strings on a Taylor T5x.
I like the strings on a Taylor T5x. Excellent signal to the magnetic pickup from the nickel windings. The round core makes the strings feel more flexible, maybe a little softer, than the same gauge string that is wound on a hex core. But sometimes, on some guitars, for some players, a flexible string is not what they are after and a hex core string, where the windings dig into the edges of the hex core and make the string slightly stiffer might be a better solution. Makers of hex core strings dis' the round core strings saying the windings are looser and allow for extra metallic resonance that cannot be controlled -- I doubt that. I like the fact that DR makes both kinds of strings, round core and hex core, so they respect that the player can decide for themselves and both guitar string technologies have their strengths and weaknesses, pros and cons. Try them out. Look and listen hard for the subtle difference between the round core and hex core. Then learn what strings you like on which particular guitar. There is no single brand or type of string that is the "best" for all guitars.

The high E or 1st string keeps coming unwound. ...
The high E or 1st string keeps coming unwound. I bought 5 packs and all did this after about a week of play. This was on a jazzmaster.

Wound 3rd
I love DR Pure Blues and I swear by them. Best vintage tone hands down! Only problem is I decided to jump from 11s to 12s only to realize after opening the package that the set has a wound 3rd!?!?!? I don't see "wound 3rd" labelled on the box. Company should be a little more clear on what you're getting before buying..Edit: I contacted DR Strings directly and the responded within minutes. They actually make the same sets with an unwound G string. Look for PHR-12/PL!!
