Baieido - TOKUSEN (Excellent) KOBUNBOKU Incense - Large Box 220 sticks, Black

I am still on a learning curve with this incense, but loved it from the get go. I use it as my daily and still it has the capacity to surprise. It's very well balanced. Sweet, but not too much with some fresh uplifting resinous piney-sort of notes. Although this is a "traditional" Japanese incense it bears no resemblance to the typical oriental incense smells. I find it quite unusual & rather elegant. It's a rich and complex fragrance, may be a little on the heavier side. But in my opinion it's not a bad thing. It's an incense with a presence. Not loud, but firm. It will ask for attention, but in a polite manner. Great for any occasion.

unlike the usual ones you get from the SGI shop (such as nippon kodo - Japanese Incense Sticks | Ka-Fuh) this one does smoke that not badly.The scent is not sweet but woody/earthy - I would not have bought it had i just sniffed the box, but when it burns the scene is different. Not sure its worth £25 but on the other hand its nice to treat your gohonzon/shrine to something different. If you want to mediate in a pine or ceder forest this might help get you there.

old fashioned scent

Beautiful, gentle and smooth stick from Baiedo, this.All natural ingredients - no synthetics - like all of their products.I usually burn Shoyeido Baika-Ju ''Plum Blossoms" (you can get that on Amazon for a great price too) but I think I might have found my new daily incense.This Tokusen Kobunboku is less sweet than the plum blossom by Shoyeido but in a similar territory. Very refined and not too spicy. Subtle earthiness and really mellow.It's a grown up elegant and sophisticated scent. Burns incredibly clean and is really smooth.£25 isn't cheap to spend on incense, I know. But this is a big box and it's worth every penny.
