It's Hard for Me to Live With Me

Excellent and Compelling look at life.
What makes this book so interesting and impactful is Rex’s blunt honesty and his willingness to speak his real truth. His humility is inspiring. He doesn’t run from the mistakes he has made and you just vibe that this guy is being so candid so he can help others. It’s not preachy at all, but a breezy forthright book that goes beyond basketball.

Amazing book, brutally honest
As a kid, Rex was my idol. I copied everything he did. How he dressed, his gold chain, his haircut, and his jump shot. But as we all age, we learn that everyone is going through something. To learn about Rex's struggles was tough to hear, but I'm glad he shared them. His story will help a lot of people. Good luck Red in whatever life brings you next!

Great Comeback Story - too political at the end
I grew up in Kentucky and remember seeing Rex Chapman playing at UK and on to the NBA from there. I was familiar with his story of addiction and legal troubles, but not as much his story of coming up as a basketball phenom. The amount of racism he endured from his relationship with Shawn was unknown to me, and heartbreaking to read about in the book, as were the demons of anxiety and depression he dealt with throughout his career, even while at the top.The last 30 or so pages of the book become highly political, which was disappointing. Not that I didn't know Chapman's views from following his X account, but these days, it just feels cheap for an author to take their book off-topic by taking political pot shots at 'the other side', regardless of which political point of view they write from. If anything, politicizing his story took away from the comeback and redemption themes for me.All in all, this was an otherwise great read. You can't read this book and not feel yourself cheer for Rex Chapman, because everyone loves a good tale of redemption. He has lost it all, seen the bottom, and is coming back up. He did a great job of showing that his life is still a struggle, too, which I appreciated, and gave his story a great feeling of authenticity.

"Strikes and Gutters, Ups and Downs"
Rex's memoir is a great book for his incredible candor and self reflection. Once I started the book, I could not put it down. Being a big basketball fan, and of Rex's generation, I was immediately drawn to the book. Basketball is a big part of Rex's life but the box score doesn't tell you everything you need to know about him. There are some laughs and there are a some parts of his story that will bring a tear to your eye. I highly recommend it!

SALTY LANGUAGE AND A NARCISTIC LIFE WHO HAS NO SPIRITUAL ANSWERS. HE HAS NO SPIRITUAL HELP BECAUSE HE HAS NO DESIRE TO HELP OTHERS. IT IS ALL ABOUT REX.
