Great book, great speaker
I saw Pernille speak at GoogleFest in Michigan this year (2015) and she is AMAZING. She doesn't pretend to have the answer to everything but she does try her best to provide you with helpful insight and some potential problem solving ideas. I would love to work in a school district with Pernille. This book clearly shows her passion. The other nice thing is that you can always reference her blog for things she mentions or the hand outs provided in the back of her book. One thing she mentions in the book that is really found to be accurate is that this isn't a book that you will necessary read through all at once. I come back to it from time to time when I need inspiration or just some encouragement.

Giving Teachers Courage to Change
An easy read that makes you rethink many long held assumptions about how we teach. Pernille's passion for learning shines through her words and it's hard to read this book without wanting to make some changes in your classroom - big or small. I highly recommend this book to all teachers and challenge you to read with an open mind. Just because things have always been a certain way doesn't mean they can't change - especially when we know they aren't best for our students. Be the change in your classroom - you may be surprised what you hear when you start truly listening to your students.

Giving your Classroom Back to your Learners
I want to thank Pernille Ripp for being so open and honest about her own journey to create an environment that encourages learners to own and drive their learning. What I love about this book is how it is so easy to read and follow as you learn strategies with your own journey creating a class filled with passionate learners. To bring structure to each chapter she referenced: Then, Now, and Next. The question I hope each teacher that reads her book reviews the question in Chapter 2: Would you like being a student in your classroom?

What will students do in your classroom today?
This is a wonderful book that highlights many ideas, and innoivative insights that new teachers and practicing educators need to consider for their students and classrooms. Ms. Ripp introduces logical and persuasive arguments in the realm of homework and its purpose, and how teachers can advocate for student voice in the classroom, and ultimately in being a part of the learning and curriculum process. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, found each chapter useful, and recommend it to anyone who is interested in today's classrooms.

Finally, a voice in education that is truly collaborative ...
Finally, a voice in education that is truly collaborative. Pernille shares what works for her as an educator and shows her process. Instead of focusing on how her personality as a teacher is a success, Pernillle shows us how all of our personalities can create successful change. It's a book that leaves you feeling empowered and enthusiastic about the privilege of working with a wide variety of learners!

A must-read for educators ready for a change!
Passionate Learners is a guidebook for creating a classroom that is student-focused and considerate of every aspect of a student's educational and mental well-being. It helps teachers pull back from being the focus of attention, while at the same time honoring the rigors of modern American educational systems. This is a must-read for teachers ready to re-claim their classroom and passion for teaching.

Teaching from the Heart
This book is an absolute must read for new teachers, experienced teachers and administrators. It speaks to the heart of teaching and empowers teachers to have the confidence to let their students take the reins and have a voice in their own learning. This book has gone right to the top of my list of favorite professional books!

but she's a pretty fabulous teacher and author herself
You may already know Pernille as the founder of the Global Read Aloud, but she's a pretty fabulous teacher and author herself, as well. In this book she shares her journey from a classroom where she needed to be in complete control, to a classroom where she handed most of the control over to her students and reaped the rewards of higher engagement and higher test scores. She shares her past thinking with how she thinks now and pares these with great resources (and e resources) that she shares with her readers. She writes about the classroom set up, evolving classroom management out of the "punish, reward, behave cycle", her revised feelings about homework and grading and my favorite part of the book, building relationships. It would be a great gift to give to new teachers, and I found it to have a lot of ways I could improve my own classroom (and I am far from new to teaching!).
