A GREAT value!
I have been using this unit for a week for so an love it. I rated 5 stars because there isn't a way to rate 4.5 and willing to give it a bump up. It is absolutely a GREAT value. It's lightweight, durable, responsive, and though there is a bit of a learning curve from Win 7, it presented no problems. Upgrading to ASUS was a no brainer for me, given the exceptional service of the eeePC's we have used for the past 3-1/2 years. ASUS customer service has always been good. If they lack anything in that area is that they don't always fully read or understand what you are asking. Reply time is usually 48 hours. Chat is OK, too. If you have need to use tech support online, you will not find this unit in the dropdown menu as a K200ma ... it is part of the X200ma family. There is one feature that could get a bit of improvement and that is why the 1/2 lower star rating. It is the touchpad. Sometimes you have to give it a bit more than a touch. Sometimes, two good bumps of the finger to get it to respond. The keyboard and touch screen work perfectly. There was very little in junk apps installed ... that was a good thing, too. All my apps I used on the Win 7 unit installed without incident. Was told that Print Shop 22, 23, and 23.1 would not work on this system. Not true, There was a hiccup with 22, but answered the prompts and it installed, including the Net Framework version it required. Office 2007, and OpenOffice installed without incident as did several games. Don't get frustrated with the two different UI's. Internet Explorer renders differently from the taskbar than from the Start page. So, if you are one that adds links to various webpages on your desktop, know that they will look different. Not a big deal, but can be frustrating. There is no Favorites bar when launched from the Start page. The Start page offers some nice customization features. Works very nice with the touch screen. Scroll up and there is a full list of all the apps installed in alpha order. Easy to use, and locate those apps you choose not to have on your Start page. Comes with a trial version of McAfee LiveSafe. Wasn't my choice, but it functions well. I have opted for another vendor. Movies play in HD and look great on this bright 11.6" screen. Audio is what you would expect. I have not tried my small USB speakers. Audio from earbuds is crisp. I am not the best person to rate the audio as I have some frequency deficits. The unit does not have a CD/DVD player/burner. I already had an external, so there wasn't a problem with loading up my previous apps. Also, if you have Bluetooth you will have to invest a few dollars for a version 4 dongle. I was pleasantly surprised at the speed of this 2.16Ghz Celeron processor. I don't know why other vendors show this unit with a 1.8Ghz processor, because the ASUS site and the unit show the 2.16 with a turbo of 2.41. The 4 gig of RAM are quite sufficient for my needs... I surf, buy online, word process, and a few mindless time wasting games. Keep in mind, this is not a gaming machine. Not sure why they chose to partition the 500gig hd they way they did, but it works for me. If you don't like it you can always change it to whatever suits your needs. Battery life isn't exceptional, but adequate at a little over 5 hours. Don't forget to let the power drain to 10% or less for 3-4 cycles to condition the battery for longer up time when not on AC power. All in all, it is a GREAT value from a reliable company.

Fantastic little machine!
This was a gift after my VAIO, which I hated, finally quit. It's only been two days, but I'm in love with this little machine! The size and weight were exactly what I was looking for and the touchscreen is an added bonus for the price ($259 w/Prime). The keyboard is smaller than the standard size I'm used to, but it isn't an issue for my clumsy fingers. I don't find the keys hard to press and they're sturdy enough that I don't feel like they'll be broken easily. The screen isn't too difficult to read in the shade, but it does have a gloss that easily reflects light. Indoors there is no issue with glare. This computer is user friendly, but is taking me time to get used to. I've been a longtime Vista and XP user. I don't keep up with technology but have familiarity with Windows and haven't had a problem figuring out how to do what I want. As a graduate student I spend a lot of time on Office, which this machine doesn't include. Google Drive is easily accessible, however. I have yet to work on projects but can tell that the touchscreen is going to help with browsing research and navigating screens, plus it's fun to use! I don't think there would be any interference with the keyboard if a user prefers to use the touchscreen predominately, which I'm finding I prefer to the touchpad. The only minor concern is the touch pad, which sounds hollow when tapping. Maybe I need to adjust the pressure I use, but it's a bit noisy when tapping. My review gives 4 stars for the issue I encountered with a setting that restricted the use of the keyboard. The fix came from Google and hasn't been a problem, but it was disconcerting.

NOT 500GB but kinda alright
I just received mine today and i'm fairly pleased with it. I was almost worried because it was lagging when i first started it up and setting up windows and stuff, but now it's all good. the touchscreen works fine, speed of oeverall computer is nice. it's a pretty good student laptop. there are a few things i was kinda bummed about: 1. it is that it is slightly heavy for it's size. i expected it to be much lighter 2. windows 8...but that's just personal preference(it took 30 minutes to get rid of all the unnecessary pre-installed apps) 3. i failed to notice that the battery is completely encased in the bottom and cannot be easily removed. which means if the batter dies it will probably cost more to replace. 4. and i was just looking around and IT'S NOT A 500 GB HARD DRIVE...it's only like 186GB...which isn't bad for my purposes since this is only like a travel laptop for me so i'm not storing much on it....but i'm disappointed because that's what i was expecting

This little laptop/notebook has really grown on me
You can read the technical aspects someplace else. I'll tell you this much: The screen is small, but that comes with the design of an ultra-portable notebook. The touchscreen works great, but you don't have to use it if you'd rather stick with the classic mouse (touch pad) and keyboard controls. The screen doesn't quite fold back far enough. It can be annoying when actually using it on your lap while sitting upright because you're effectively not looking at the screen head-on but rather at an angle. I ordered the white color, and I really like the distinct appearance. The white keyboard (while not back lit) is also easier to read in low light. I'm sure that if you run some intense programs or games that the processor will bog down, but I've found it to be fine while surfing the web, word processing, and watching HD videos. The keyboard is plenty big. The battery lasts long-enough (longer than my other laptops), and I've never unexpectedly run out of power. This little notebook is really, really portable. I find myself taking it places I never took my larger laptop. It's light too, which is nice. The overall value of this computer is really impressive. For about twenty bucks more than a Chromebook, you get the functionality and versatility of Windows 8.1 and a touchscreen. Not a bad deal.

not a very strong and reliable laptop
I've used this laptop for a little over a year now... first of all, when I newly got it, as soon as I powered it on, I noticed a rather very audible disturbing noise coming from it unlike other laptops i've used. Then after a year of using it, it suddenly started malfunctioning. I can't use the laptop at all, it keeps hanging and I can't click on any icon at all, nothing would just respond, I can't even turn it off properly. I had a sony Vaio before using this, I got this because it's a lot smaller than my sony Vaio and more portable, i've had my sony Vaio for over 4years and I never had any issues with it, it never malfunctioned, even the battery life was still at it's best. I was hoping for a similar experience with this product if not better but this was a huge disappointment, and it went bad just at the very worse possible time, I have academic works in progress and a lot at stake and i've missed a lot, this is affecting my speed. Wish I never went for this product. Wish I went for a stronger well known name, I won't be encountering this problem now. Just a little over a year with this product and it's giving me a heck an issue. Affordable price but not strong and reliable.

Just What I Was Looking For
You need to think of this laptop as more akin to a tablet. Similar screen size and portability - but something you can load with real software, that is much faster, with a half-a-terabyte of memory, USB ports, HDMI, SD card reader, Ethernet, and a VGA port - all things tablets don't have. I cannot stress enough how important - and RARE - it is to have these port options in something as small (and convenient) as a tablet. It is not the fastest computer I own, but it is by no means slow, either, so don't worry. It is reliable, handy, and capable beyond the inherent limitations of tablet architecture. Almost a hybrid - but far, far cheaper. Since getting it, I have done video and sound editing, PhotoShop, AutoCAD, the entire spectrum of MS Office - almost always with multiple programs running and Googling things. And I have streamed films. It all works just fine. No, it is not as fast as the big cahuna in the next room. If I really need that, I go over there. But for 95% of my needs this little sucker does the trick nicely. No problems at all after about six weeks of constant use. Highly recommended, especially for the price.

It's OK For a 300.00 Laptop with a Touchscreen
I am an IT person who has several high end machines both desktop and laptop with Haswell i7's and 16GB and 8GB of RAM respectively. The problem is my laptops are very big and weigh a ton. I wanted a laptop that was very small, lightweight, and portable and had a touchscreen. When I looked at the specks on this I wasn't expecting too much. First impression: When it arrived it was about what I expected in both quality and performance. Cheap feeling and slow compared to what I am used to. The hard drive is very noisy and is constantly churning. The touch pad is cheap feeling and the 2 finger swipe motions don't always work, but it's usable. However the USB 3 was a real plus and the touchscreen works flawlessly. Streaming from Amazon was clear and not choppy. I was even able to connect to work via my VPN and log onto our servers. As a simple "couch" laptop that allowed me to run any Windows program, respond to support tickets, answer emails and surf the web it worked just fine. But I just couldn't get past the hard drive noise and was going to send it back. Upgrades: I decided to take a bit of a risk before I sent it back. First I added a $10.00 tiny USB Bluetooth adaptor that now gave me BT functionality for a mouse or whatever. I also ordered a 6.00 USB light that clips on the top to illuminate the keyboard. Last but not least, I order from Amazon a Coursair 512GB Solid State Drive for $200.00. I transferred the OS and all the partitions to the new SSD and presto! It was a different machine. Restarting windows to a log in screen went from about 110 seconds to 20 seconds. It was also absolutely silent except for the brief times the fan came on. Every program opened and responded at least 50% faster than before the SSD replacement. Final Thoughts: The cheap hard drive is the Achilles Heel of this machine (I found it for 29.00 retail on Amazon). The noise everyone is complaining on this device is coming from the cheap hard drive. This includes the noise in the audio when using headphones. I am now into this thing $516.00. I probably could have purchased a better overall laptop for that, but it still wouldn't have had an SSD. So I think that for what I spent, I got exactly what I needed. I have no complaint now other than the finicky touchpad. And with 512 GB of SSD storage, I am already filling it with music and movies to fill my travel time. There is no laptop or tablet I know of that can compete for the price and features my upgraded machine now has. But my best endorsement of this laptop is, I intend use this as my primarily laptop while on the road. That's a lot of trust from someone that always needs to be connected.

A couple of problems... *EDIT* Never buying an Asus product again
I started college in fall 2014 and bought this laptop for school. It's almost perfect. Fast start up, long battery life, light and comfortable - good to carry around while I'm at school. Speakers are pretty good, and it barely gets warm. It's great for someone like me who doesn't need a whole lot of programs installed and uses it lightly. However, I found a couple of problems with it. The first is with the keyboard. Some of the keys stick or don't work unless you press down pretty hard. I've noticed it's mostly the apostrophe, colon, 't,' and 'a' keys, at least for me. This can be frustrating when trying to type quickly, so be sure to double-check your writing often. The second problem is with the touchscreen. It worked flawlessly for about two weeks. One day it just "spazzed out," for lack of a better word. The screen would zoom in and out on its own, move around, and click on things by itself. It went on for a few seconds, and then stopped. It got worse over time. The spazzes happened more frequently, they would last longer, and they were more severe with the clicking and zooming. It became very difficult to regain control of the computer, and most of the time I had to just wait it out. This became a huge nuisance, so I ended up disabling touchscreen, which is pretty disappointing since one of the reasons I bought this laptop was for the touchscreen. After looking around the web, I found other Asus users experienced similar problems. Overall, if you can deal with the funny keys and if the touchscreen isn't a necessity, buy this laptop. It's a great purchase, even with the problems. But if you're really in the market for a touchscreen laptop, I would definitely avoid this product. *EDIT* After about six months the laptop suddenly stopped working. This is the second time it has happened. I was able to get it to start again the first time, however, this time it would not turn on at all or take a charge. Sent it in to Asus for repairs but did not receive my charger when it was returned. After this experience, I will never but an Asus product again.

Arrived on time im perfect condition. So far so good
Arrived on time im perfect condition. So far so good, exactly as described. Only thing I would say about the computer is that it is really small, it is the size it says it is and I thought it was what I wanted but I regret not going a bit bigger.

and I love it already
I've only had this guy for about a week, and I love it already. The design is much more attractive than how it looks in the above pictures -- it's really just a classy little system for someone on the go, and sturdy as heck to boot. I would never buy one in place of an ultrabook; rather, I bought it to supplement my colossal gaming laptop so I could have something to travel and bring to lectures with me without cutting corners in terms of power. While I'm used to running with 8G of ram, the 4G feels just a fraction less snappy, but it absolutely does its job. The picture is brilliant, the touch screen works wonderfully, and all-around I'm quite happy with it. My only complaint is that the trackpad feels a little cheap and is less responsive than I would like, but it's a very small critisim and I would highly recommend this little guy to anyone looking for a compact beast on the go.
