THE BEST SUPERHERO SOUNDTRACK OF ALL-TIME: THANK YOU!
When the original limited edition CD came out I was both overjoyed and yet felt a little cheated. The first release was wonderfully comprehensive with respect to the episodic music that was selected. However after a couple listens, my insatiable response was "where's the rest?" Well, here it is! My fear was that due to limited demand or declining interest this music would never be released. Instead my greatest musical soundtrack dreams are now realized. Haven't been this happy since I was stunned by the brilliant release of The Flash soundtrack. It's amazing how major motion pictures struggle to compose appropriate scores for their gzillion dollar monstrosities. Yet (along with unparalleled animated story telling brilliance) Batman the Animated Series gave us the greatest Batman depiction along with absolutely wonderful music five days a week, we've ever heard. (Still can't quite make out what the droning drumbeats in the Dark Knight films were trying to accomplish). Shirley Walker and company's Danny Elfman inspired music captures the complete orchestral essence of the Bat like nothing ever has!Wonderful! Thank you!

Memorable music from a classic animated series
Why would anyone release a 4 CD soundtrack to a 20 year old cartoon? One answer could be that the first time this particular company produced an earlier 2 CD soundtrack to this same cartoon it sold out faster than the sleek car the show's lead character drives. But the truest answer is that the soundtrack is from not just any cartoon but from perhaps the greatest action adventure cartoon ever created in America......"BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES!!"Premiering in September of 1992, this remarkable cartoon created a distinctive depiction of the heroic comic book character first imagined by artist Bob Kane, and his writer/collaborator Bill Finger. Two decades after its debut on television screens across the United States and later the world, this "Dark Deco" interpretation of the legendary Dark Knight Detective is considered a classic and a turning point in American animation. For this reviewer and life-long Batman fan, it is quite simply one of my all-time favorite television shows."Batman: The Animated Series (Volume 2)," the "Original Soundtrack to the Warner Bros. Television Series," is an expanded follow-up to the above mentioned first limited edition soundtrack collection produced by La-La Land Records in 2008, Batman: The Animated Series , which is now out of print. To commemorate the release of this sequel to the sold out original soundtrack, and to appease many Bat-fans, the company produced a revised version of the collection, Batman the Animated Series: Vol 1 (Second Edition) (2 CD) [Soundtrack ]. Just like its predecessor, Volume 2 contains a treasure trove of music from this cherished cartoon, chiefly composed by the late, great Shirley Walker (1945-2006), along with a team of talented music makers which include: Carl Swander Johnson, Harvey R. Cohen, Carlos Rodriguez, and Michael McCuistion, to name a few. With a total running time of 291 minutes, this 4 CD set envelopes the listener into the amazing adventures of the Caped Crusader as he defends Gotham City from his infamous rogue's gallery of villains. While taking its main theme and initial inspiration from the music created by Danny Elfman for the Tim Burton films "Batman (1989)," and "Batman Returns (1992)," " Batman: The Animated Series" by necessity had a more varied and ambitious musical scope. This soundtrack showcases a wide range of musical styles that has its foundation in the heroic exploits of The Batman, yet also in classic film scores. From the rousing yet also melancholy music from the episode "Beware the Gray Ghost," the jazzy theme to "Almost Got 'Im," to the score to the globetrotting tale of "The Demon's Head (Parts I and II)," which pays homage to the music of film composer Maurice Jarre, this soundtrack is a testament to the importance of music as a key ingredient in animation. It is also a musical reminder of what a great cartoon "Batman:The Animated Series" was and will always be.This soundtrack collection also includes a very informative 36 paged full color booklet which provides background on the forming of the musical fellowship that would go on to create the memorable music for the series. It also features a detailed analysis of the "mini-movie" scores that enriched the individual episodes of the animated cases of The Batman; and its cover is the iconic red moon Batman end credits image I've always loved! This reviewer highly commends La-La Land Records for putting so much effort into this very special soundtrack. Check out their website (lalalandrecords.com) to discover other scores they offer to film music lovers. Their grand "Batman: The Animated Series (Volume 2)" comes with my highest recommendation...and a word of advice: this special collection is a "Limited Edition" release of only 3500 copies. Buy it now before it sells out because it's truly worth the investment! You won't regret it!
