This rspb feeder is much more robust than other nut feeders. Bigger gauge, stronger mesh and powder coated metal fittings should keep the pesky squirrels at bay for much longer than the cheaper thin mesh and plastic feeders. Time will tell.

Conventional nut feeders have to be continually cleaned because the nuts are exposed to the weather and very soon become toxic.Because of their design cleaning is rarely a simple process and usually very time consuming and they are also wasteful, which is also costly.You are probably by now screaming at the screen "THIS IS A SEED FEEDER" Be patient with me.I have been filling this feeder with nuts for a couple of weeks(the feeding ports are large enough for easy extraction by the birds)and they have remained dry and clean.As far as being squirrel proof I think that relies mostly on where and how it is sited.The one in my garden is attached by a slender piece of galvanised garden wire about two feet long to a piece of copper pipe which is also two feet long and holds the feeder away from a linepost.My garden is the squirrel equivalent of the M25.,I have kept watch and despite numerous attempts,their efforts have been thwarted.This is a quality product and really is easy clean.The birds visits are now quite fleeting as they don't struggle to remove the nuts but then you have to remember who its there to benefit.

The gauge of the wire mesh on my old feeders was too narrow and the squirrels would destroy them within a couple of weeks. This product is much more robust. It will not stop your fury tailed friends eating your nuts, but it’ll stop them destroying your feeders.

This is a very smart, sturdy feeder which is proving very popular with quite a wide range of birds - as I write I can see a Great Spotted Woodpecker chipping away at the nuts.

Well constructed - will last years

I have had this hanging in my garden for two weeks now and I cannot understand some of the negative reviews. From day 2 it has been regularly occupied by members of the tit family who have not problem with the size of the holes, they happily nibble at the nuts with no apparent difficulties. I would suggest however that if you do have problems, try a mix of different nuts in with the peanuts, such as broken walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts, also use only really good quality peanuts. I find it easy to clean, easy to fill and it hangs well. Regarding squirrels, I also have those and deter them by giving them their own nuts, in the end you will never deter squirrels if you are, like myself, a humane person, just give them enough to eat in one go so that none are left hanging around and they will leave the bird feeders alone. I wouldn't bother with those baffles that fit on the poles since squirrels are so clever and find ways of overcoming them. Anyway, this feeder is five stars in my opinion and helps the RSPB.

Ich füttere die Vögel ganzjährig, da das Ornithologen in unseren Gefilden ;-) aufgrund von Monokultur-Anbauflächen empfehlen.Und ich habe wirklich Spaß dabei! Es gibt manchmal regelrechte Vogel-Banden, die ein Theater im Garten aufführen.Ich habe diese Futterstation sehr günstig erstanden und nachdem viele andere Stationen schwer zu reinigen sind, das aber unabläßlich ist, musste ich eine Alternative finden.Handhabung / FassungsvolumenSehr einfach, aufhängen, Klappe oben auf, einfüllen, fertig!Es geht deutlich mehr rein als in übliche FuttersäulenDurch die Höhe können mehrere Vögel an der Säule hängen. Nachdem sie nicht die Nüsse direkt mitnehmen können, brauche ich etwas weniger Futter als zuvor.Durch das einfache Konstrukt und die Drahtwand lässt sich die Futtersäule einfach reinigen. Das ist sehr wichtig, da auch hier Bakterien entstehen können (vor allem in heißen Monaten) und so die Vögel vergiften können. Futterstellen sollten immer in regelmäßigem Abstand gereinigt werden!FutterMischfutter mit kleinen Körnern passen hier natürlich nicht rein, da sie durchfallen.Ich nutze jedoch diese Säule nur für halbe Erdnüsse und das klappt primaAlles in allem bin ich sehr zufrieden und daher fünf von fünf Sterne.
