The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer: The William Morris Kelmscott Chaucer With Illustrations by Edward Burne-Jones (Calla Editions) Hardcover – May 17, 2017

This is simply the most beautiful book I have ever owned. The paper is cool and crisp to the touch and the coloration, though not what my instinct tells me I should like, is lovely. The print is very clean and since this is Chaucer in the Middle English, that is a necessity. I can read the works as originally written, but need to really concentrate. If the print were not good enough, I would have great difficulty. The illustrations are so intricate that one can spend time just exploring and absorbing them. This is a book to be enjoyed on many levels.PS - This is a large and heavy book. You will need to sit at a table or a comfortable couch or arm chair.

Arrived in a timely manner. Big, beautiful tome. I look forward to having the time to dive into it.

An absolutely BEAUTIFUL book!

I ordered this three times. The first arrived damaged, and was returned and reordered. The second arrived damaged as well, returned and reordered as well. The third (should be the charm, right?) was supposed to have shipped, and then cancelled with a refund processing.

This huge and heavy book is nearly an accurate facsimile of the original except the pages are not printed in color to display the pages as they were originally printed. For the cost of the book, I expected it to be in color. Also, the paper used has a glossy surface, which is not representative of the original. I decided to keep it as a 2-star reference to William Morris' design, but this edition was not well thought-out (why use glossy paper and not print color?). The original was printed in black in red, this one has no red.

A real work of art. I have already memorized the first page of text using the glossary in the beginning to learn the meanings of the old English words that were new to me. A classic of literature , a classic of artful presentation. and a real tome using beautiful paper and fine printing. I am glad to give such a wonderful book a home.

Gostei bastante das gravuras e da escrita, a beleza está nos detalhes e na caligrafia gótica inglesa. O acabamento é muito bem feito, bonito. A importância é que ele relata o inglês como era na idade média, ou seja, ao ler você usufruirá de um inglês totalmente diferente do que conhecemos. Não tenho críticas a fazer sobre o livro, tudo nele achei muito bem feito.

For less than $100, a marvelous value for the money. One of the original and only printings of 500 is currently for sale for well over $100000!
