Home Roasted Light to Medium
Great Brazilian Peaberry. Very Delicate to Roast, care must be taken to watch the drum temperature. Roasting 500 GM. batches to just approach 225 C. results for me a light to medium roast. I turn down the heat at 150 C. ( to allow the beans to roast themselves exothermically. The roast can get away from you if you like light to medium roasts. Good value @ $0.40/ounce. I use a quartz drum roaster I purchased from Amazon made in China. It has paid for itself after roasting the 12.5 lbs. Update: Roads Roast possibly failed to ship 2nd order waited over 11 days. USPS tracking stated they were waiting for shipper to deliver the item to them. What happened Roads Roast ?? Update: Roads Roast tracking on their end stated USPS shipment confirmed USPS lost item in transit. RR very responsive I will order again. The coffee is great, the USPS needs help

These Coffee Beans Are INCREDIBLE
First of all, every reviewer complaining about the size of the beans clearly knows nothing about the peaberry varietal. Peaberries are called that because they are smaller than standard beans. These are exactly the right size for peaberries, and if you know what you're doing, you can adjust your roasting heat/time to make sure you get an even roast. That said, my husband and I LOVE these beans. They have the best smell while roasting, the roast was even and perfect, the resulting coffee had rich and balanced flavor. We've always done Tanzanian Peaberry, and this was our first time doing Brazilian. I am a HUGE fan. We will definitely order again!

One of my favorite coffees.
I have always been a fan of Guatemala Antigua and this one does not disappoint. As always, Smokin Beans delivered a high grade bean. This coffee tastes great medium but also does well in the darker roasts.

What an amazing Brazilian coffee
Chocolate and Peanuts/nut notes.Delicious coffee and super fresh.Medium roast is the way to go. If goes to a dark roast you lose some of the notes.

Much more interesting than Guat. Antigua
I have been a fan of Smokin' Beans' Guatemalan Antigua which are far superior to the Antigua beans sold by another brand whose name sounds like they are first. I then tried these beans from farther west in Guatemala. These Huehuetenango beans have many more flavor profiles to offer than the merely excellent Antigua. The flavors of this varietal change remarkably as you pass first crack and continue to evolve as they darken into second crack and beyond. Since I roast in open pan style I remove about 1/3 of the beans as they just past first crack. As the beans get into second crack fully, I remove about 2/3 of the remaining beans and take what's left to dark roast; which in my setup is about two mins later. The darker roasts will mask the profiles of the lighter roasts and their flavors will be lost. This sequential roasting regime allows me to get all the flavors into my cup and I believe is the best way to handle these beans. Much more complex than the Antigua.

Flavor profile
First I will say a lot of the beans were broken. Don't know if that is a shipping problem. Regardless I roasted these in a light roast. To first Crack. There was not a lot of flavor . So roasted to full city. Got a lot more flavor, but really tasted like a darker bean with no body. So I rate these beans as just ok.
