Q: Can this frame hold a painted 16x20 canvas? Or is it for photographs only?

I used it on a 9 x 12 canvas and it worked beautifully and looked museum quality. If you can get it in the 16 x 20 dimension, and a 1/2 inch depth canvas it should work for you.

Q: where do you go to get the glass to put in it??

I get glass for frames at my local glass supply/glass service co. If you need specialized glass (non-glare, UVA/B protection), you may need to go to a framing shop for that glass.

Q: This thing really weighs 25 pounds?

Definitely not. I ordered the 16x20 size and my guess is that it weighed a couple of pounds?

Q: How do you put the hardware on the back of the frame?

Sorry... I do not use the hardware supplied. I fix eye-screws into the frame and hand my pictures from wire attached to the eye-screws. I also have offset brackets that I attach from the canvas frame to the outer frame. This works for me.
