Unfinished Nature: Particle Physics at CERN

An important text
From the first paragraph readers will be drawn into the world of high-energy physics. I also liked the fact that the author has included a chapter on the relations of art and science even though I disagree with her assessment on that topic. Some of the other chapters are more difficult and dense. But if you are "into" anthropology, this is a fun read. The polemical aspects of funding and risks of nuclear science have been left out. I was not looking for a full coverage of the economic and political context of contemporary high-energy physics. I recently took an introductory anthropology course and was fascinated to come across a book by an anthropologist covering CERN.

Wow! An inspiration
Arpita Roy does a fantastic job of describing the complexities and nuances of Standard Model Physics. It stoked my interest in ethnographies and lab studies.I’ve always been somewhat intrigued by anthro concepts — this book does a great job of painting them in a novel light.Had listened to a social scientist discuss quantum physics concepts.. after having spent a couple years living amongst the faculty of CERN Physics. Got me thinking. We all have pride in our field, but the silos between natural science and social science seem to rob us of the potential that collaboration would bring
