Coles Calligraphy Unisex Wood Pen with 8 Nibs and 2 Ink Bottles

I sat down with this product this morning. Having remembered learning basic calligraphy in art class, I was eager to try my hand at it again. Boy, was I disappointed. The first nib - the one already attached to the holder - refused to work. At first I thought "maybe it's just because I've not done this in years, I've forgotten how", so I pulled up some youtube tutorials to re-educate myself. While I may have forgotten some of the finer details, it seemed my basic recall of calligraphy was sound. So I tried some of the other nibs.While I was able to make some fairly nice shapes with some of the nibs, I was not able to complete a full curving letter before running out of ink. Again, I wondered if this was a user problem, and experimented to see if I was pushing down too hard or too soft. No matter what I did, I could not finish a full letter without running out of ink first - it was clear that writing a six or seven letter word would take 6-10 dips. That's nuts.I don't know if the fault is the nibs or the ink, but I could NOT get this to work at all, even after spending half an hour copying the same letter (the letter "S") over and over again in an attempt to finish the whole letter without running out of ink. It never happened.To add insult to injury, the nib holder on the wood pen fell off partway through my experimentation with the different nibs. I had to constantly slide it back into place and hold it firmly to keep it there, which made trying to write even harder.I'm incredibly disappointed by this product and will not be purchasing from this seller again.

I'm not particularly happy with this purchase, especially since it's meant as a gift and it's too late to return.As a few other reviewers mentioned it's not in the kind of box you see in the product photo but in a card board box with a sleeve and the reason for that is that it's not the same product at all... you can see from the photos I included that the nibs are different as well as the ink bottles. Nowhere on the box does it say it's colescalligraphy or that it's made in Italy.The product itself isn't awful and I would have given it a better rating if - I didn't feel like I over paid/the box wasn't damaged/it was the same product as the photo.The box itself is damaged (photos included). I don't know if it was sent already like that or if it got damaged along the way (came in a paperenvelope). For the $35 price tag though it could have been packed in a box

I bought this for my husband and he loves it. It is a beautiful set and very well made. He wanted to try a dip pen set and this has been a big hit. He is a pen lover and very picky so for him to give his stamp of approval is saying something.

Disappointed in the box, it looks like it is in a nice wooden box, but it's just a cardboard box inside of a cardboard sleeve. It was purchased as a Christmas present, I hope they like it anyway.

Nice kit to start with. If you're not sure if dip pens and ink are for you I recommend this to start with.

all nibbles are beautiful. I thought that the box was made by wood but the box is made by solid paper .

Expensive for the quality you get. Skip the sets and go straight to John Neal Books online and get some good nibs and holders for much less. Seriously...

Bought this for my teen who loves calligraphy. She loves it. It has been several months and this is still working well and well loved.
