I use this in brewing, it seems accurate and works well, 4 instead of 5 stars as now after a few months if it is placed in hot liquid too long the device won't display the temp, all the LCD light up so you get 8888 instead of 66.7 for example, it's easy to correct, just by cooling it down and re-immersing in the liquid you want to take the temp of. A longer handle would be good as well so I could keep my hand away from very hot liquids.

Owned for 2 years. Accurate and reasonably quick response (10 seconds or so) and use or jam making and measuring oil temperature for frying. The only problem is that sometimes steam (when jam making) makes the display flash all 8's. Removing from steam and trying again usually fixes this. Have replaced the battery a few times (use cheap ones from a pound shop).

I would recommend this item. I use it to measure temperature of water and it works very well and is water resistantUpdated review: 01-JAN-2013. Thermometer has broken. It is starting to show room temperature as 200 Celsius. Hmmm, I have a feeling that this is not right. I have started the returns process and Amazon are going to ship another one out. I found that this instrument was very neat yet worked very well and was easy to carry around in any pocket.

This thermometer seems to give an accurate temperature reading, but it's a lot slower getting there than my previous one.

use it all the time for making Ganache and Italian meringue buttercream.
