Does everything right
True surround sound passthrough unlike their other TV box. Great addition to my home theater. Allows Prime video in Dolby Digital. Archives info on downloaded videos like percentage of viewed files. Limited selection of apps for Android TV but there always seems to be a workaround. I have owned 3 other media players and this is the best one.

Not a great media player.
I bought this strictly to play my local media, videos stored in various USB and external SSD drives. I have no interest in streaming, for which my Roku Ultra is totally satisfactory. I play these same drives in the Roku and maybe most people would be satisfied with the way it works: it is very fast and it plays just about anything I throw at it. If some videos are corrupt, as it sometimes happens, the Roku will keep playing them all distorted, but it will not stop or freeze at least. The only thing I do not like about the Roku Ultra as a USB media player is the "transport": when you fast-forward or rewind, you do not see any action, only the time running at the bottom of the screen, so unless you know what time mark you are looking for, you cannot tell where you are in the action.Another nitpick I have with it is that it does not display my list of videos with pictures or enough info, just the title and size of the file. On the other hand, it is lightning fast to play, scroll up or down the list, fast-forward, rewind, etc. Also, it does not have slow-motion capability. My Samsung TV does a good job of displaying the titles with pictures and also showing the action during transport, and it can do slow-motion (forward only, though, not going backward.) The problem with the TV as a media player is it takes too long to load large drives, and sometimes it just freezes.I have also played my external drives with Samsung, Sony and LG brands of Ultra-HD Blu-ray players, as well as regular Blu-ray players. None of them are perfect. Some lack thumbnails during transport (like he Roku) some do not have slow-motion, some are slow to load the drive, etc.The Samsung M8500 Ultra-Blu-ray player is the best, but I figured something that is designed specifically as a media-player ought to be better, and that is why I bought this Dune HD AV1 4K Android Box. Right from the first few minutes I thought maybe I got a dead one: I plugged it in and it said "LOAD" on its front display but nothing on my TV screen. I waited a good 15 minutes, then I unplugged it from the wall and reconnected it again after 30 seconds. This time it still said "LOAD" but the Dune logo did show on the TV screen...but it was frozen and did not respond to the remote. I unplugged it and plugged it back in a couple of times, and it finally started coming on. It did an update that took forever, then it started working. I was disappointed as soon as I opened my USB drive: Instead of a list with pictures and some info for each file, there was just a list of titles. Then I stared playing one, and it loaded reasonably fast, but not nearly as fast as my other players. First I tried to play slow-motion, and it did not do it. Then I fast-forwarded a video and while it did show the action during fast-forwarding, the entire screen just froze after a minute and would not respond to the remote. I could not even turn it off with the remote. It finally turned itself off after a few minutes, but my decision was made: I am sorry, but I have to return this thing.I have a Zjbox that is half the price and better than this and it is not even designed primarily as a media player but as an analog TV converter. Its USB media playing capabilities are just a bonus, yet it does better than this one in some respects.
