Buy another thermo switch and longer hose
2001 Ram 2500 Cummins...Over all a great product. The supplied fittings to the cooler seep a little even with the O-Ring. Be sure to live the o rings and threads before installing that part. The compression fittings given in the kit work but the caps are cheap and I had to buy a new one. About .50cents and a trip to a hydraulic shop. I mounted mine under the bed of my truck and tied it to the factory cooler up front. Bypassing the heat exchanger in the truck was the reason I bought this. I ran my own lines because he kit only gives you 10 ft. I used 27ft. So buy your own hose. Don’t expect part stores to carry 1/2 ID hose so buy it here. The thermo switch is crap. It didn’t work when my temps got up to 187-193. I jumped the switch to turn the fan on and the temps dropped quickly just sitting in the driveway. I bought a second thermo switch because everyone said they broke easily. Put thread sealant on only the upper portion and the face of the sensor or else it won’t read actual temps and won’t kick the fan on. I tested the switches in hot water on the stove. Both kicked on at 180 and off at 150 after I cleaned the thread sealant off. If it doesn’t work right I’ll hard wire the fan and bypass the switch all together. Even without the fan running my temps never went above 193. That’s a bit warm for me but with no air flow you can’t expect much better when towing.

Sizing Caution Advised
Beware that the cooler requires a larger space than indicated on the web site. Because of size of the mounting bracket. I had to find an entirely different location for the cooler because even though its dimensions were exactly the same as another, different style cooler, this one needs more space.

Nice cooler, great fan, cheap thermostatic switch.
Nice cooler, great fan, works well. The kit that comes with it is marginal. They provide nice AN fittings on the cooler and adapters, then neck down to barbed fittings with hose clamps to finish off the kit.The thermostatic switch mount is pretty cheap. On ours, the threads in the adapter block were crazy loose for the switch itself. Even using thread sealant as recommended, it weeped tranny fluid. We ended up using a light coating of black rtv to seal it up. If it leaks again, I will upgrade to the npt fitting version Derale sells (that should just come with this kit to begin with).

Difficult to over heat
Complete kit with most every thing you need to install. I needed a little extra wire, more hose, and connectors to attach it to my 3/8" lines as this is half inch.Thermostat is nice as it only comes on when you need it. I've gotten it close to 220 once on a very long high mountain pass going very fast with a full load in hot weather. Otherwise it keeps it cool in most all situations.

Did not work for my 4r100
Not sure why but it hasn’t cooled my trans fluid 1 degree.I have a 6.0 cooler on my 7.3 and that works great. However I put this on for extra cooling for steep upgrades while towing my large 5th wheel.I had it installed underneath the truck. I have since changed it to the front. But still hasn’t helped. Not sure why the principle seems straight forward enough. Don’t want to knock a product when I am not sure why it isn’t working going to experiment further.

200 - 225 to 140 -165 without the fan on!
Beast of a transmission cooler. Removed the junk cooler a mechanic installed on my Silverado 2008 and replaced it with this Derale 15960. My truck went from easily hitting 200 to 225 degrees just from casual commutes to the 140 to 165 range without the fan on! Transmission cooler was very simple to install, at least for me since I just removed the old cooler and reassigned the hoses. Wired the fan to my fog lights instead of using the sensor it comes with. In my case I can just manually turn on my fog lights to trigger the fan. I did need to reverse the direction of the fan but that was a quick fix by switching the ground and power wire around.

Buy thicker o-rings 1" od 7/8" Id worked better than the ones provided they will tear if you get them too tight!!!
Works well for the most part, be very careful with the o-ring fittings when tightening them the o-ring will squish out and leak!!! I went to ace and bought thicker o-rings... Wish they would just pipe thread the cooler!!! Works well though other than that, haven't had the Trans get warm enough to kick the fan on yet though. Keeps it cool, brand new rebuild and wanted a great cooler, hasn't gone over 160* with the addition of the derale deep pan with cooling tubes, will see what it does with a load behind it eventually, brand new engine too, 25 miles on it so far!!!

Awesome cooler, great deal
Great piece of hardware. Using on a turbo car that oil has reached 240 degrees. will set up & see what temps show. did bench test & dropped temps drastically. fan is noticeably a bit on the loud side. Couldn't resist purchase since I got it on a warehouse deal. A little scratched up but hey, it's going behind a front bumper so who cares!
