I recently unboxed the GMKtec NucBox K8, which comes equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS, Radeon 780M Graphics (3.8 GHz), 32 GB of RAM, and a 1 TB M.2 SSD running Windows 11 Pro. Right from the start, the packaging was sturdy and well thought out, with the PC itself presented cleanly upon opening. Inside, there was a basic instruction manual, a power adapter and cord, HDMI cable, wall mounting plate with screws, and a warranty card. The PC has a solid range of ports—two RJ45 Ethernet ports, one HDMI, one DisplayPort, several USB ports (including USB-C and USB 3.2), and even a laptop lock port. The build feels well-designed with proper ventilation, and rubber pads on the bottom keep it stable. Setup was a breeze. The PC powered up quickly, recognized my wireless keyboard and mouse instantly, and got Windows 11 running in no time after a few setup steps and updates. I ran World War Z: Aftermath on high settings, and while there was some lag with my wireless mouse and keyboard, switching to wired peripherals and updating the drivers made everything run smoothly with no stuttering. This unit excels with most 3D games on high settings, and even ultra settings are handled reasonably well. While it may not satisfy a hardcore gamer, it’s more than capable for average gaming and regular day-to-day tasks. In UserBenchmark tests, it performed impressively at the 72nd percentile for gaming, which is solid for a compact PC of this size. Overall, I’m very impressed. It’s small, powerful, and versatile enough for gaming and general use. Perfect for those who want a capable system in a compact form factor!

I’ve had this computer for probably 2 months now, and it works great. I was worried when I first got it because I bought it to use for gaming and game development and it would hardly run even small 2D games without the mouse buffering. But after some digging, I realized I just needed to update the driver which can be done through GMKTec’s website. After that, it began running very smoothly. I can make 3D models, run my games, use Unity, etc. with no issue now. The fan isn’t very loud imo - just a little louder than my HP laptop. It only kicks on every once in a while, or if I’m opening Unity (but it calms down after the app is actually running). My only con is that it doesn’t have any speakers, but that’s something I almost certainly should’ve expected. It’s a really great computer for the price and size and easy to set up - it took me through set up with Windows 11 Pro which I already use and took about a day to sync my stuff. You can also change the BIOS if you want to, though I didn’t feel the need to.

My iMac took a dive on me earlier this month and I don't have the funds currently to jump into a new mac studio. So, I looked to find something that will accomplish most of the tasks I do on a daily basis, that won't break the bank. I will use this machine for basic video editing (Davinci Resolve), browsing the internet, spreadsheets, etc. I wasn't expecting much out of a $600 machine, but I have been pleasantly surprised by this little box. It's small, and I mean SMALL... but it packs quite the punch. 32gb ram (upgradeable to 64gb, and a 1tb NVME drive with a spare slot for expansion in the future, really allows this machine to churn right along even through 4k 422 Prores footage. My only complaint about the computer is that I'm back in the windows ecosystem. Which I can't stand. I know Ubuntu will work on this machine, but not without some headache trying to get everything up and running the way you want it to. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the machine, and it will hold me over for a while until I can get my hands on a Mac Studio (or new iMac if they ever decide to release a new 27" version). Worth every penny!

I am so glad I bought this computer. It was easy to setup and is blazing fast. I ran Passmark benchmark on it right away and it came in with great marks, right where it was supposed to. I just recently shot high-speed photog at an air show for F-22 (Raptor) and then F-18 Blue Angels and was using Topaz software to denoise and sharpen the images and it was taking about 10 minutes to process a single 10MB photo on my old HP ProDesk 600 Intel Core i3-7100. This new GMKtec K8 AMND Ryzen 7-8845HS takes about 10 seconds! Amazing difference, particularly at this price point. All my setups with this computer were simple and quick. Bluetooth connections were seamless. The only negative I've seen is writing to an external 16T HDD - it seems to have to wake up the drive every time whereas the old HP wakes it up once and it's good for a whole session. To solve this I simply put a working folder on the internal 1T SSD that came with this mini and it is fast and flawless.
