Works well
Like most self tanners you need to be careful when and how you apply. This does decent job of giving me color on my legs. It did however stain my sheets but that’s probably partly my fault to be fair. The scent isn’t bad and it doesn’t last long. Careful with hands wash immediately. I find if I use gloves while applying it’s not even.

Proper color tan--NOT ORANGE!
I am impressed with this tanner! Most of them smell awful (like, put this on in an evening when no one will be visiting, wait for it to work, and then shower it off to remove that stink) but this one doesn't. I'm not convinced that it smells like rose, exactly, but it's not unpleasant. Somewhat sweet, and maybe floral, anyway. The color is really what sells this one. It ISN'T orange and even after a few weeks, the residual tone doesn't end up orange. That's a big deal for me, because my base tone is very pink/red, and my tan is typically a dark cherry wood or chestnut shade, with a very red hue. Orange looks ghastly on that background and it's very, very obvious that I've used a chem tan, plus just looking unhealthy. So, all that to say that it's important to me that a tanning product must not produce orange shades on my skin. Happily, this one doesn't! It goes on thinly enough to let you work up a gradual darkening, but you can see the difference even with the first application, and it's a nice deep mahogany tone. Very pleasant.Obviously, as with all chem tan products, skin prep is critical. Gotta exfoliate aggressively before each application, and then try to not exfoliate unevenly in the time before the next application. I made the mistake, once, of putting a different tanning lotion on my legs, and then later that day wearing a set of wellington boots to do some stall work in a horse barn. When I took off the boots, the "tan" on my legs was mottled and uneven like I had a disease. So now I'm extra careful about removing all the dead skin cells that might be dislodged by sweat and friction before I apply tanners, and if I'm likely to be in grubby conditions, I might wait until later to use a tanner. Those rules apply for this lotion same as any other.

Excellent formula
I absolutely adore loving tan products. I have purchased many different types to use for my whole body but they knocked it out of the park with this one. I always worry that I'm going to make my face too dark when I'm using the Tanner on the rest of my body and it would look weird. This is the perfect solution. I love that it's a gradual tan, not a very dark tan that immediately turns extremely dark. I can put on a layer let it set and see what the color is actually going to be. The formula is excellent and doesn't make me look orange. It's a very natural looking tan. I use it often times mixed with some moisturizer just to give me that sunkissed glow even if I don't feel like doing a full body tan. Just make sure that you exfoliate prior to using it so that it doesn't stick to the dead skin on your face.

Exfoliate before using
Review: Loving Tan Rose Scented Deluxe Gradual Tan LotionThis is great for pale legs! After reading one of the reviews about how it stained her palms, I went ahead and invested in a tanning mitt/glove and also exfoliated the heck out of my legs. The creams goes on nicely but I found that if I "primed" my legs with lotion beforehand, it didn't absorb more in drier areas and the tanning cream went on evenly. Otherwise it literally applies like a lotion. I have very pale legs (think death meets sun) and two applications, spaced out two days, was enough to give them a nice glow.

Begins Staining Immediately
This Loving Tan Rose Scented Deluxe Gradual Tan Lotion says to "Apply lotion to your body in circular motions using your Deluxe Applicator Mitt" but I did not receive a deluxe applicator mitt so I had to use my hands which left them brown. Not a good look if you're going out and want to look nice. My photo shows after I scrubbed them twice with soap. The lotion goes on like a body lotion and is easily rubbed in. It does give an almost instant light tan and gradually darkens. I was concerned at first because it said Dark but it also says For Medium to Dark Skin Tones which has been fine for me. I'm a bit pale and this provides a nice tan. After checking Yuka (an independent app that scans food and cosmetic products to know their impact on your health) I was sad to see it gives this product a score of "41/100 Poor" for the ingredients. I do not smell a rose scent at all which is fine because rose is my least favorite. There is a scent but it's not strong, lingering, or off-putting like some tanning lotions. If I had been provided with a mitt and if it got a better Yuka score, I would give this four or five stars.

Rose is not my favorite scent, but this tanning lotion does work well
So this is actually too dark for my taste since I’m already pretty light skinned, but it works OK if I mix it half-and-half with a plain sunscreen. I really don’t care for the rose scent but that’s just a personal preference. As a tip for anyone who is a beginner to self tan, you really need to prep your skin very well before applying this type of product. You have to exfoliate the area, paying very close attention to areas that tend to get dryer than others, such as the ankles, knuckles, and knees. Those areas will tend to of your more product and become darker than other areas and look strange. Other than that, apply it thin and evenly and rub the product fully in, and wait for it to get fully dried before putting on any clothing. And don’t shower or wash the area for several hours. If you follow all the directions and self tan tips, you should have no problems.

smells good
This is my first time using a tanning product and I used it on my legs only. I wish I would've used gloves because now the palms of my hands are tan. It covers up the imperfections of my skin which is nice but it is not very dark so I am not going to be looking like George Hamilton any time soon.
