The Official U.S. Army Combat Skills Handbook

Helped my sister in law survive France.
After seeing the real life documentary “Taken,” which thanks to drone technology captures the real time harrowing rescue of a woman about to be sold into the world of underground slavery and prostitution, I immediately became worried when my sister in law informed me she was taking a class trip to France. I knew that frankly I didn’t have the resources and raw ability to dispatch my foes as the former government agent who was only able to save his daughter and one other random woman had, and had to consider other ways to prepare her for the worst. As such, I decided to gift her this handbook before her trip so that she could learn the basics of combat. She made it back alright so I guess it helped, though she refuses to give me the details of what she went through abroad.

It's more of a guidebook than actual handbook
This is an interesting book that gives snippets of general information that have been taught in Basic Training for about 50 years. A lot of the equipment and products talked about in this book are obsolete. The blood dripping off of the bayonet on the cover is a marketing ploy. This is a book about some of the the skills of soldiering. This is not a book that teaches the skills of combat. So, for what it is, it is a good book.

Terrific info from the best source in the world: the U.S. Army
The book offers a great deal of information on combat skills, including fighting positions, weapons, marksmanship, survival, evasion, and so forth. I enjoyed it and learned a lot.
