Kids love to grow things but planting in the yard can be a challenge due to weather, etc. Their disappointment when their outdoor plants die can be hard to deal with. Indoor plants tend to get too much or too little water when they're the kids responsibility. A terrarium is the perfect solution. They're easy to grow and everything is contained within the jar. As a bonus it serves as a nightlight so they can go to sleep watching their plants grow.

I got this to do with my young son. I guess maybe we rushed through the process of layering the soil, but by the time we were done and placing the dinosaurs it all just looked like a brown mess with hardly any of the white or blue layers showing through.The grass grew after a few days. I guess it's kind of cool. The batteries won't last nearly long enough to use this as a night light for very long; but I just keep this in front of a window outside my son's room anyway, so it's a non-issue for me.

5 year old had a lot of fun with this terrarium and especially liked getting to grow the grass! Came with everything he needed but he did need help (which was no big deal) in getting the small packages open and making sure the ground (Dirt) looked good, and getting the little figures to stand up. After that, he was able to open it and use the included spray bottle to water (mist) the grass which sprouted up in no time!

This little terrarium looks great when fully assembled. The layering is difficult to get perfect, but the grass grows nicely and it looks great. The battery in the light dies off quickly though, only lasting a few hours. It is kind of difficult for kids to do alone so it should be done with adult assistance.

A good gift idea. Easy to set up and use, easy for kids to understand, and very satisfying. It’s made well; doesn’t leak or fall apart easily.

This was a really cool idea and fun for him to do. It definitely kept him busy and gave him something creative to do instead of video games all the time. What is frustrating is this comes with two batteries which is cool but the problem is each battery only lasts an hour. The box literally says 240 minutes but the battery life does not even come close to that. So definitely pick up some more batteries. Overall though this is really fun for him and he loves dinosaurs so we really enjoyed doing something fun together as a family.

I am impressed by this little terrarium kit. It comes with everything (minus the water) to put together and the quality is darn good for the cost.My son is almost 4 and did most of the work. Pouring the layers and sprinkling the seeds far enough apart. He took a real interest in this and we both were so happy with the end result once completed.The instructions are very easy to follow, and the adorable dinos, deers and gnomes add to the creativity. There is a spray bottle included and since this has a solar powered light (no batteries! Yay!) it does add an extra special element when all lit up.We planted the seeds a few days ago and you can already see them starting to sprout, which my son thought was pretty neat.This definitely exceeded my expectations. And while learning about plants and how they grow and thrive, this also teaches valuable patience and nurturing.My son runs out to our deck every morning to most and check on the growth of the seeds, and just that alone is pretty awesome.

I think this is an excellent activity for kids. The items come individually wrapped inside the kit, including grass seeds. Once they are planted, the kit even provides a small spray bottle to keep the grass moist and sprout. I thought this was an excellent idea, but was a little disappointed that the enchanted forest had dinosaurs - I had anticipated woodland creatures or maybe gnomes. It does come with a deer figurine, but would have liked more woodland creatures.
