Review: Very good compilation - It's hard to believe that Telstar were not going to exist for much longer after this compilation was released. A great cross-selection of music from the peak of the electronic/synthesiser era. Well recommended Review: Great 80s Music - Outstanding music from the 80s, the likes of Gary Newman: Cars Visage: Fade to Grey, Japan: I Second that Emotion, and Many more.

Classic 80s album - brilliant!
Love almost every track on this album. Big 80s techno music fan. Almost all the 'classics' on this one. Nice price too.

Good background nostalgia - but a bit too safe?
The tracklisting makes for a good listen on paper, and I'm not averse to the Thompson Twins - although 3 tracks is questionable! This set covers several classics and also a few surprises like "Under Your Thumb" which sounds really good and experimental pop even today. "Einstein A Go-go" and "Pop Musik" are personal faves of mine too, but we always seem to get the same Erasure tracks on these compilations, and also the same absentees like Depeche (label-mates, so no excuse), League, OMD, Cabaret Voltaire and the more mainstream Scritti. No inner notes, and a couple of credit slip-ups add to the slight laziness, although the compiler has ensured the relative volume and brightness are reasonably matched across the tracks, unlike some compilations out there. Gary Numan's "Cars" is the 1987 E Reg 7" (but poor Zeus B Held gets no mention atall) and Yello's "Oh Yeah" is the classic sounding New Mix In 1 Go version, not one of the dreadful Plutone Mixes from 1995's Hands On Yello (only one of their mixes is anything other than sacrilige). So we have to thank the compiler for sneaking in a much better version than the one listed in the small print :-). It's a pretty solid set, but not great when you actually get halfway through either CD, due to the looseness of musical direction. There was a volume 2 but the track listing was weaker, so I won't be hunting high and low for that one!

Mostly decent overview set of hits from the early 80s ...
Mostly decent overview set of hits from the early 80s, although the inclusion of a (great) Sparks song from 1974 is puzzling.
