I Dare You Not to Bore Me with The Bible

It just simply doesn't get any better than Heiser!
This book is great, but it leaves you praying for so much more!If you haven't read his fictional books The Facade and The Portent, I'd strongly recommend that as well. While they are fiction, they could almost be used as reference works as well.I discovered Dr. Heiser's work about a year ago and since then I think I can honestly say that I've watched every single one of his YouTube/Vimeo videos as well as reading a great deal of what he has written. On his homepage, drmsh.com, there's a link to his resume/CV. This document lists pretty much everything he's ever written, where to find it, and whether it was written for the laity or the scholar. In early 2015 Dr. Heiser will have two new non-fiction books coming out--the answer to the prayer in the first line of this review! Until then, I strongly recommend you find these CD/DVD sets while you're waiting for the new books to come out. To find these resources, simply copy and paste the title into Google and the 1st result should be where you want to go. Also, the purchase of these products goes to support a valuable ministry.1.) Exploring Ancient Truths in the Context of their Biblical FoundationsA Biblical look at God's divine counsel and how His heavenly system of governance impacts mankind, especially God's children.2.) From Chaos to Restoration HeiserAn enlightening and thorough overview of the conflict between the realms of darkness and light from before creation to the end of time.To summarize:Once again, Heiser is the best. I strongly recommend reading/watching/listening to literally everything Dr. Heiser has done. This is the program I would follow, the first three are on Amazon, and #4 and #5 you can find to purchase with Google.1.) The Facade2.) The Portent3.) I Dare You Not to Bore Me with the Bible4.) Exploring Ancient Truths in the Context of their Biblical Foundations5.) From Chaos to Restoration HeiserNow, go to YouTube and Vimeo, type in "Michael Heiser," and literally watch everything.Short update: I asked Dr. Heiser by email what he thought of the above order of material I've listed, and this was the response for those who are interested."The honest answer is to wait for the non-fiction books, which will appear in Feb-March 2015...In their absence, it's best to read through the content on my divine council site (starting with the first item listed)...After that you could hit I Dare You...I'm not sure about items 4 and 5 on your list since I didn't create the discs...The fiction introduces small nuggets of divine council theology and its implications, piggy-backed onto supernatural / paranormal fiction. They could be read any time."

A teacher born for this time
I found Dr. Heiser by sheer meandering through Instagram. Its been 2 years since I first listened to him on YouTube and from there I have read close to every thing he has written. Though I was familiar with some of the material it was still interesting and I still learned new things! He has a definite gift for delivering more complex information and making it consumable to the average person. He is just an amazing teacher. I'm not an official "student" but I very much consider him my teacher. What he has taught me has changed my life. It has transformed my understanding by expanding the things that denominational filters shrunk, and putting things that were misinterpreted back into its appropriate place. I never loved the Old Testament, but I do now. What I have learned in no way diminished my awe and wonder of God and Jesus, even though it was very different. I would say it has made me more so. What an amazing Creator we serve and what a beautiful Savior we have. I am thankful for Dr. Heiser helping to set me free from false doctrine, false religion and for helping me fall back into love with my Bible, with my God and my Savior.I'm praying for you Dr. Heiser! In all things God is good all the time.

This book is an easy read...for those who are not scholars.. and interesting
Heiser is a real scholar. When he publishes you can be certain that the History and Textual fidelity is solid. This book is an easyread and interesting. I have followed Dr. Heiser's extensive writings for many years...his blog, and work concerning Ancient Literature distortions, not just Biblical, by certain present day self-styled 'scholars'...those who are generally nothing more than self-congratulatory 'fringe writers'. (and sadly are paraded as 'experts' by the so-called Discovery/History channels...)His work includes rebutting distorters of Ancient Cuneiform Texts/History...a practise exhibited by Zecharia Sitchin, Von Daniken and other 'knuckleheads'. (an appropriate Ad Hominem considering that these 'pseudo-scholars' have been openly corrected concerning their distortions and yet they persisted with their willfully distorted and stupid behaviours...'cause, I guess, it sells books to ignorant people)The reason I trust Heiser's work? His stated motivation and practise is..."Let the Text lead"...as opposed to 'bending' the Text(s) or 'imposing his 'personal beliefs' upon Textual material.Heiser also helped with the online series at ancientaliensdebunked.com and it is a wealth of free and solid material.Timothy Keeney [email protected]

Eye Opening Bible Study
This book should be read by everyone, as it opens up key contextual meanings that MOST people would otherwise never understand. Michael explains many of the 'mysteries' in scripture by carefully and clearly delving into the context, customs and culture of the text. Setting and culture is everything in scripture and most bible students are not familiar with them.Whether you agree with his explanations or not, the fact remains; studies in context, culture, language, ancient mythology and several other important aspects are a must to understanding the scriptures. Sure, there are hundreds of (contextual) passages that are blatantly understandable, but Dr. Heiser has delved into the most difficult and often, most understood passages.Thank you, Michael, for doing this time-consuming and difficult work into cultures, customs and languages. You have taken my bible study to a whole different level.

GREAT BOOK
Great book if you're interested in those hard to understand verses in the Bible. Like all of Mike Heisers' work it is easy to read and very easy to understand. I would recommend ALL of his books to everyone interested in the Bible.

Bore me with your book instead...
Actually found this pretty boring! Lost interest in it and read something else, came back to it and found it harder still to participate.Had to check the title a few times to see if I had the rite 'book'...Not sure I agree with a few of His suppositions, I don't mind reading peoples opinions, even if I don't agree with them, different perspectives are always good.
