At the Pentagon we had so many of these lying around that (insert clever ending to this sentence here). So I was bemused that once I had my own vintage tanker-desk, I actually needed to buy them. Prior to that moment I've never really thought of them subjectively. I had some nostalgic feel for them. I used my 1948 typewriter to make labels, which the folders come with, because of course I did. I remember as a child in the 1970's visiting my mother's office and seeing these exact folders in her desk. I'm also struck by the longevity. These are seemingly eternal. I remember cleaining out old defense department files for purging (nothing exciting... mostly technical specs for old navigation systems) and noting that once the contents were removed, the files were still perfectly serviceable. The only difference was that the pre1970's files tended to be brown instead of green. The files CAN fit in any drawer that's deep and wide enough as long as you also buy the hanging file rack. Smead makes one that's less than $10 for a pack of two. It's most likely going to be right size for you, but I had to measure mine to make sure everything fit. Once you install these in a cabinet or drawer, it's a surprisingly satisfying way to organize. JHA
