The West Wing: Complete Series (Blu-ray)

My wife and I are big fans of this series. Smartly written, well-acted, and an all-star cast make this one of the best series we've ever watched. We've enjoyed this series many times over starting with the original broadcast on NBC, then again multiple times through our DVD sets. Yeah, I said "sets". plural, because we watched the first set so much, we wore out some of the disks and had to replace the whole seven season set. We were early HDTV adopters, having bought our first rear projection HDTV well before this series started in 1999. While the first season was broadcast in SD, the second and subsequent seasons were in HD. With this Blu-Ray set, the first season has a decent HD conversion with a 16:9 format instead of the original 4:3. The second through seventh seasons are all in 1080p HD as well though the image quality appears to be a tick better than on the first season. Overall, the visual quality is considerably better than it is on our entirely SD DVD set and at least as good as I remember it being when seasons 2-7 were originally broadcast on our first-generation HDTV. I can only surmise the reasons that some reviewers have commented that this HD set is only "slightly" better than SD and at times "grainy." One possibility is that they wrote their reviews based on the quality of season one only and before starting the second season. Another is that they don't have a DVD set to compare the quality of this Blu-Ray set to. Yet another is that they don't understand the limitations of the original grainy film stock on which the show was captured. Does it compare favorably to shows and movies captured more recently in digital 4K? No, but it does live up to the celluloid standards and the industry medium of choice at the time the show was made. With regard to the negative comments about the packaging, again, I can only surmise the reasons. This set has 20 fewer disks than our DVD set, but it still has a total of 28 disks. That's a lot of disks. The packaging is as compact as it can be made with that many disks and is less than half the size of the packaging for our DVD set. Unlike some other reviewers, I like the fact that the disks are securely attached to their respective pockets. Far too often with sets like this, the disks come loose, rattle around inside the case and become damaged and unreadable. It's pretty clear that will never be an issue with this Blu-Ray set. Bottom line, the show is one of our all-time favorites and a real treat to see it again now in the HD format seasons 2-7 were originally broadcast. The visual quality is what you would expect from the original film stock and the 5.1 DTS surround sound fills our theatre room beautifully. If you are looking for nits to pick, I'm sure you'll find them in anything you buy. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a copy of this series in all the glory it was originally broadcast, this Blu-Ray set delivers in spades. Enjoy!

Everything about this is fantastic. Great print, and all of the stories are excellent. You cannot go wrong with this set!!! The acting is the best.

Even as a conservative, I can set my beliefs aside and enjoy this show. Masterfully written and performed. Box set of blu rays is great and has some good special features on the last disc of each season.

6/5 stars for the show - absolutely my favorite piece of television of all time, with very few titles even worthy of consideration for comparison. 3 stars for the release as a whole. 2 stars for the Blu-Ray composition and physical product. I have watched through all 156 episodes of three times in various formats and media, and am on my fourth by way of this Blu-Ray box set. If you have never seen the show before, then this is likely comparable to watching it on a streaming platform - both of which being the best renditions. As others have mentioned, it appears to be the same quality as earlier remasters, and there has long been speculation that the show - or at the very least the first season - was remastered by upscaling from the SD rendition rather than resampled. The quality issues are most prevalent in the first season, but do improve thereafter. I think for me and other longstanding fans, the greatest disappointment is simply that now that the show has finally been released on a high-bandwidth medium (and only finally now, literally at the end-of-life of the Blu-Ray medium as a whole, nonetheless), we were simply hoping for a higher quality remaster than was already available. Nonetheless, having never actually had owned a physical copy of the show before, the commentary tracks alone are well worth the purchase - especially for any fan of Sorkin's work. But there is not commentary for every episode, and there are no additional features or behind-the-scenes entries beyond the commentary. I sort of expected for more insightful inclusions, if not documentary-esque retrospectives and interviews. The actual physical and meta aspects of the release are all infuriating garbage. The plastic jewel case is absolutely horrendous: - The "pages" of discs are not affixed to the enclosure in any manner. - The bits of plastic which stick up through the center of each disc to secure them are near impossible to coerce to release - I'm halfway through the third season and I haven't discerned any technique for freeing discs without bending them and applying excessive force and trying to pinch with fingernails. Every time I swap discs a battle ensues in such a fashion that I am deeply worried about damaging the discs each time, because I have no idea how to actually free disc - eventually, each time I just eventually get lucky. - The arrangement of discs and cutouts and difficulty with manipulating them ensures that it's virtually impossible to work with the discs without smearing the media surfaces with fingerprints, if not risking scratching them. The paper inserts are nothing but lists of episode titles which are on which discs, and there is nothing to secure them to the jewel case. For what should be the definitive release of the series, I would have expected the booklets to pay homage to and provide insights into the work. Instead we merely get a thoughtless table of contents, without so much as synopses. The media menu system for navigating a disc's contents is also lacking. It also seems absurd to me that the series is available in various subs and some dubs on streaming platforms, but here only English. I've also never seen any media in my life which thought it necessary to specify that it's closed captions can be Off or "English (For the deaf and hard of hearing)." I am neither deaf nor hard of hearing but sometimes I like subtitles. Why do the digital features of this media feel like they were assembled at the turn of the century when it's being released at the very end of physical media's lifespan as a whole? All in all, you should watch this show - especially if you have a bit of a liberal skew or long for an idyllic functional U.S. government with caring participants. But if you're a longtime fan, all that's really here for you is physical ownership and commentary tracks - admittedly good enough reasons on their own for my purchase. If you purchase this set, definitely look into a better case for the discs, and consider ripping them to a harddrive - this show deserves better than a plastic jewel case which threatens it's longevity. On an aside, I can't wait to try my hand at applying AI functionality and frame generation to this video, because I am confident that even a hobbyist can improve upon the quality of the remasters here, even without any access to the masters... Maybe it would not have been so true to the original, but I wish the company handling this release would have put a little more love into it. Or at least just the jewel case and inserts, at the very least.

Case is sturdy and does hold each disk FIRMLY. I felt the video quality was very good. Truly an inspirational show, completely re-watchable, and worth the cost of the blu-ray set.

The West Wing is a beautiful series, expertly written and an all round recommended watch. Now making its debut on blu-ray in a disappointing release. First off, If you have never seen this series before or want to rewatch it, its probably the best way to do so. That said; this set should have been alot better. The remastering is quite poor, probably an old master being used. As the picture is very soft and filled with grain, at times it looks no better than an upscaled dvd. And frankly a series of this caliber deserves better. The packaging is one of the worst ive seen, loose disc-flaps inside two dvd-sized jumbo boxes housed in a flimsy cardboard box. At current I’m nearing the halfway mark and have encountered multiple authoring mistakes such as episode recaps only appear on episodes which have audio commentaries. An episode where the subtitles go completely out of synch with the picture, and the subs are of the separated by speaker and simplified variety (sometimes they are simply wrong), so they are often distracting. All in all, recommended but with serious caveats.

If you are new to The West Wing, I cannot tell you how good it is. I remember when I bought the Season 1 box set a number of years ago. At the time, I had no interest whatsoever in politics and I was merely going on a handful of recommendations. I had no idea that I would be buying not only the best TV show ever created, but also the best piece of entertainment ever created in ANY format. First and foremost, the writing is of the absolute highest quality. The only thing that comes close to the intelligent and often hilarious writing is Aaron Sorkin's (creator of the show) other work, i.e. A Few Good Men, The American President (which is like a condensed, movie-version of the show). Sorkin wrote nearly every episode of Season 1-4 and I think he is the closest thing we have to a modern day Shakespeare. The fast paced, overlapping dialogue that he penned is simply sublime, as brilliantly crafted, heavyweight characters spar with each other over colossal issues that impact millions of people or over the day-to-day banality of working in the office (albeit the most important one in the world). Sorkin has taken the senior staff of a White House Administration and created a unique and endearing character for each position. The pitch perfect casting of these characters is the second thing that makes the show so special. I can praise the standard of writing or the exceptional acting forever, but perhaps the biggest compliment I can pay is to reveal how inspirational this show has been for me. Before I bought The West Wing, I was languishing in my final year at University, simply going through the motions of trying to briefly memorise facts and figures for exams. After watching this show, I developed a thirst for knowledge and a desire to become more dynamic. I wanted to debate two sides of an important issue by calling upon a body of knowledge and citing numbers from `three sources'. I wanted to be this informed and resourceful individual who could delve into his college work in an organised `what's next?' kind of way. I stopped reading my textbooks simply for the sake of reading them and I even based a vital university assignment on the first year episode that dealt with a delivery company strike over two-tier hiring. The pros and cons of two-tier hiring were superbly argued in this episode and, by expanding on the points raised, I received a very good mark for my `Strategic Human Resource Management' assignment. Please don't be put off, however, by talk of mundane things like two-tier hiring. Even if The West Wing did an episode on wheat prices in Russia, it would still be an outstanding piece of smart and funny entertainment. For those of you who didn't know, this complete box set contains the region 1 extras that aren't available on the individual box sets. This includes deleted scenes and features - a whole wealth of bonus material that has never been available to region 2 DVD owners before. It is a big investment to buy all 44 discs and 154 episodes at once, but I couldn't imagine spending all this money on any other show. The series is understandably affected when Sorkin departs at the end of Season 4, but I would give anything to discover The West Wing again. I had to wait for several agonising months before I could see what happened after the amazing season one cliffhanger - I am green with envy to think that you can switch discs in a matter of seconds to find out what happens next. Then again, you never got that great feeling I did on the day when the old `Season 2, Part One' box set was FINALLY released.

Dire que cette série est brillante relève de l’euphémisme, tant elle apparait comme la meilleure production politique américaine apparue lors de ces vingt dernières années. Le scénario mené de main de maitre par Aaron SORKIN, comportant des dialogues ciselés et des situations réalistes, sur la façon de gouverner à la tête de la première puissance mondiale est tout simplement magistral. Les personnages sont attachants et ultra crédibles, jamais manichéen, ils essayent de mener à bien une mission difficile et hautement complexe, en la gérant au mieux de leurs capacités, mais ce sont aussi des êtres humains, qui sont capables d’erreurs ou qui se laissent emporter par leurs émotions. La politique est traitée de manière adulte et non caricaturale, que ce soit le parti Démocrate ou Républicain, chacun met ses convictions en avant, tout en respectant les opinions de leurs rivaux. Vu la spécificité de l’endroit, il y a de nombreuses décisions importantes à prendre, où l’on ressent une tension sous-jacente, qui donne lieu à des situations extrêmes, mais qui n’en restent pas moins passionnantes et qui se regardent à juste titre comme des rebondissements dans un thriller. Voici une série d’une intelligence rare, qui n’a malheureusement pas trouvé son public dans notre beau pays, une erreur injuste qu’il convient de réparer dès à présent. Amateurs d’excellentes séries dramatiques et de culture américaine, n’hésitez plus, vous deviendrez addict dès le premier épisode et vous regarderez assidument les sept saisons, qui vous sembleront bien trop courtes et vous ne souhaiterez plus qu’une chose lors du dernier épisode, qu’elle continue encore. Le coffret est un import anglais du plus bel effet, il est rigide et donc très solide, ce qui protège parfaitement et contient les sept saisons, présentées de manière homogène, avec 6 disques répartis dans 3 boitiers slim pour chaque saison, ce qui fait un total de 42 disques ainsi que 2 disques supplémentaires consacrés aux bonus, le tout en audio anglais, il n’y a pas de version française, les sous-titres sont en anglais également, mais cela n’est pas gênant et reste un très bon moyen au final de se perfectionner dans la langue de Shakespeare. Les sujets traités sont nombreux et variés, ils dénoncent aussi bien les problèmes de société internes aux Etats-Unis comme la légalisation de la vente de certaines armes à feux ou bien la course à l’investiture, tant Démocrate que Républicaine, en vue de la campagne Présidentielle pour trouver le digne successeur du Président Bartlett après ses deux mandats au pouvoir, désigne ses nombreuses spécificités, notamment la difficulté de jongler avec plusieurs fuseaux horaires répartis à travers un pays, qui fait 18 fois la France en terme de superficie ; que des situations explosives relevant de la politique extérieure, qui montrent des pays comme l’Inde et le Pakistan, ennemis depuis longtemps, frôler une nouvelle guerre ou un chef d’état Africain venu aux Etats-Unis pour négocier le prix de médicaments pour lutter contre le SIDA dont sont victimes ses compatriotes, subit un coup d’état dans son pays ; sans oublier des problèmes touchants directement l’équipe des collaborateurs du Président, comme l’addiction à l’alcool et aux médicaments, situation exploitée par le camp adverse des Républicains, afin de fragiliser le gouvernement ou encore les menaces de mort à l’encontre d’un membre de l’équipe au centre de l’exposition médiatique, qui requiert un garde du corps pour sa sécurité. L’excellence est de rigueur pour cette série exceptionnelle, y compris au niveau des acteurs, qui sont tous au-dessus du panier, avec pour commencer l’équipe fondatrice présente dès les premiers épisodes : l’immense Martin SHEEN, qui incarne le Président des Etats-Unis Josiah Bartlet, porté par toute sa classe et son talent naturel, il offre un superbe écrin adapté à la dimension du personnage, qui apparait ici plus vrai que nature ; à ses côtés pour interpréter la première Dame, Stockard CHANNING, également médecin de profession, dégage toute l’énergie requise pour mettre en valeur cette femme déterminée et qui va droit au but, tout en affichant une certaine réserve quand il le faut ; enfin Elisabeth MOSS campe Zoey Bartlett, leur fille cadette, étudiante à l’université, son union avec Charlie Young, faisant d’eux un couple mixte, leur attirera les foudres d’un groupe extrémiste prônant la suprématie blanche, l’actrice accédera à un rôle de premier plan plusieurs années après la fin de la série, à partir de 2017, notamment à travers son interprétation du personnage de June devenue Defred, dans la série dystopique « The Handmaid’s Tale », acclamée par les critiques et dont sa performance sera récompensée par plusieurs prix. L’équipe de collaborateurs du Président, affiche des personnages hauts en couleur : le regretté John SPENCER campe avec force et sagesse, Léo McGarry, Chef de cabinet de la Maison Blanche, très compétent, son évolution le conduira vers un des plus hauts postes politiques qui soit, la mort de l’acteur qui intervient lors de la dernière saison, sera directement intégré dans la série, entrainant la mort de son personnage ; Bradley WHITFORD incarne avec tout le réalisme nécessaire, l’attachant Josh Lyman, Chef de cabinet adjoint de la Maison Blanche, excellent stratège et connaissant la politique sur le bout des doigts, son évolution le mènera très loin ; Richard SCHIFF interprète brillamment Toby Ziegler, Directeur de la communication, sans conteste le plus complexe de la bande, subtil analyste politique, il peut désorienter par son tempérament jusqu’au boutiste, qui peut lui faire dépasser les bornes ; Rob LOWE campe Sam Seaborn, Directeur Adjoint de la communication, après une longue traversée du désert, c’est peu dire que le comédien opère une véritable renaissance en renouant avec un personnage charismatique, sérieux et d’une crédibilité à toute épreuve, briguant par la suite une place très convoitée, l’acteur partira à la fin de la saison 4, après l’échec de négociations salariales avec les producteurs ; Allison JANNEY incarne avec énergie, C.J. Cregg, la Porte-parole de la Maison Blanche, femme dynamique et intègre, dont les compétences l’emmèneront vers un poste très prestigieux ; Dulé HILL interprète avec beaucoup de finesse, Charlie Young, Assistant personnel du Président des Etats-Unis, dont il deviendra l’ami et son union avec Zoe Bartlett, la fille cadette du Président, lui attirera la haine d’un groupe suprématiste blanc, il obtient ensuite une évolution méritée au sein du groupe ; Janel MOLONEY campe avec fougue Donna Moss, sachant faire preuve d’un humour décalé et ravageur, elle est d’abord l’assistante de Josh Lyman, dont elle est secrètement amoureuse, mais ses ambitions professionnelles la pousseront à partir de la Maison Blanche, afin de progresser dans sa carrière. Des petits nouveaux intègrent la distribution principale. A partir de la 4ème saison, Joshua MALINA incarne très habilement l’intègre Will Baley, d’abord Directeur de campagne du candidat démocrate Horton Wilde, malgré le décès de ce dernier, il décide de mener la campagne jusqu’à son terme, il devient ensuite Directeur adjoint de la communication de la Maison Blanche et brigue ensuite différents postes jusqu’à saisir une opportunité qui le propulsera sur le devant de la scène en politique ; à partir de la 5ème saison, Mary McCORMACK interprète la très diplomate Kate Harper, conseillère adjointe à la sécurité nationale, réfléchie et atypique, elle est d’une aide précieuse au Président lorsque celui-ci souhaite organiser une rencontre pour la paix entre dirigeants Israéliens et Palestiniens ; à partir de la 6ème saison, Alan ALDA campe le très redouté Arnold Vinick, Candidat Républicain à l’élection Présidentielle, doué et d’une efficacité sans pareille, il est l’opposant parfait au Candidat Démocrate à l’élection Présidentielle incarné par Jimmy SMITHS, du nom de Matthew Santos, d’abord sous-estimé, même par son propre camp, on suit jusqu’au bout ces deux représentants de leur parti, afin de savoir s’ils réussiront à se démarquer de leurs concurrents jusqu’à la phase finale, le suspense sera laissé entier jusqu’au dernier épisode, qui déterminera l’issue du vainqueur ; enfin la 7ème saison promeut la multi-talents Christine CHENOWETH, déjà récurrente dans la 6ème saison, Annabeth Schott délaisse son poste de porte-parole au sein de la Maison Blanche pour devenir conseillère en communication, lors de la campagne à l’élection Présidentielle du candidat Santos, la comédienne, également chanteuse pour des Comédies musicales à Broadway, continue sa diversification en s’orientant vers le registre dramatique, avec ce rôle qui lui va comme un gant. Outre les acteurs principaux qui se taillent la part du lion, une pluie de guest stars composé d’acteurs connus, vient compléter cette distribution prestigieuse, avec entre autres : Marlee MATLIN, John DE LANCIE, Adam ARKIN (Chicago Hope), Corbin BERNSEN (La Loi de Los Angeles), Roma MAFFIA (Profiler), Oliver PLATT, Connie BRITTON, Ron SILVER, Mary Louise PARKER, Laura DERN, Mark HARMON, James BROLIN, Tony AMENDOLA (Stargate SG-1), Christian SLATER, Matthew MODINE, Matthew PERRY (Friends), John GOODMAN, William DEVANE (Knots Landing), Gary COLE, Glenn CLOSE, Jason ISAACS, Ed O’NEILL et William RUSS (Un Flic dans la Mafia). On retrouve également des acteurs en passe de devenir des stars plusieurs années après : Jorja FOX (Les Experts), Emily PROCTER (Les Experts Miami), Lisa EDELSTEIN (Dr HOUSE), Reiko AYLESWORTH (24H Chrono), Jamie DENTON et Felicity HUFFMAN (Desperate Housewives), Rocky CARROLL (NCIS), Clark GREGG (Films Marvel et les Agents du S.H.I.E.L.D.), Ty BURELL (Modern Family), Taye DIGGS (Private Practice), Terry O’QUINN (Lost) et même l’apparition spéciale de la Rock Star Jon Bon Jovi. En conclusion, voici un chef d’œuvre politique, qui tout en étant percutant et servi par des dialogues aux petits oignons, déversés dans des joutes verbales édictées à 300 à l’heure, a su garder un côté humaniste, loin du cynisme aujourd’hui en vigueur dans certaines productions. Cette intégrale est un délice, dont je ne me lasse pas.

Ende der 1990er Jahre hat sich Serienschöpfer Aaron Sorkin dem gewagten Thema einer politischen Drama-Serie angenommen. In "The West Wing" porträtiert er die Arbeit im Weißen Haus und beleuchtete dabei neben dem Präsidenten vor allem seinen Mitarbeiterstab, der jeden Tag aufs Neue dafür zu sorgen hat, die Botschaft des US-Präsidenten zu formen und zu verbreiten und ihm hilft, das Land zu regieren. Eine Serie über den politischen Alltag klang zunächst nicht sonderlich erfolgsversprechend und publikumswirksam, doch schnell erfreute sich die Serie großer Beliebtheit, sowohl bei Kritikern als auch bei den Zuschauern. Daher wurden zwischen 1999 und 2006 154 Episoden in 7 Staffeln ausgestrahlt. "The West Wing" besticht dabei durch ein gutes Gespür für Details und realistische Darstellung vom politischen Alltag in den USA. In sieben Staffeln wird die politische Landschaft der Vereinigten Staaten umfassend behandelt. Das reicht vom alltäglichen Tagesgeschäft wie Gesetzesentwürfen, die durch den Kongress gebracht werden müssen, über Nominierungen und Bestätigungen in der Ämtervergabe, wie etwa bei Richtern am Obersten Gerichtshof. Ebenso werden Krisensituationen auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene behandelt, darunter natürlich auch das Thema Terrorismus und wie der Präsident und sein Stab diese handhaben. Am Ende der Serie hat man schließlich Einblick in beinahe jeden politischen Bereich erhalten, wobei sich gerade die letzten Staffeln 6 und 7 intensiv mit dem Thema Wahlkampf auseinandersetzen, was sehr spannende Ansichten und Einblicke beinhaltet. Natürlich hat es in den vergangenen Jahren gewisse Veränderungen in der Politik der USA gegeben, die in der Serie so nicht gegeben waren und daher anders dargestellt werden. Dies ist aber nur selten der Fall und so ist "The West Wing" auch heute noch aktuell. Mit viel Intelligenz und Authentizität aber auch stets mit Humor wird das Bild der politischen Arbeit hinter den Kulissen der Macht gezeichnet. Politische Insider loben die Serie dabei für ihren Realismus. Auch wenn die Serie natürlich gewisse Konflikte zeichnet und dabei von zeitgeschichtlichen Entwicklungen etwas abweicht, wirkt nichts zu stark konstruiert oder zu fern des Möglichen. Immer werden die politischen Prozesse dabei aber auch mit der menschlichen Seite verbunden und so entsteht in den Geschichten viel Platz für Gefühl und Humor. Dramaturgisch ist die Serie darüber hinaus sicherlich mit das Beste, was in den letzten Jahren im Fernsehen zu sehen war. Das fängt bereits mit hervorragender Kameraführung und Schnitt an und geht weiter über Ton und Musik, bis hin zur detailgetreuen Setgestaltung, die alle eine absolut realistische Atmosphäre zu schaffen vermögen. Die Dialoge sind allesamt auf unglaublich hohem und brillantem Niveau und es gibt beinahe nichts damit Vergleichbares. Einen großen Anteil daran hat dabei der hervorragende und mit unzähligen Preisen ausgezeichnete Cast. Um der Leistung gerecht zu werden müsste jeder Einzelne von ihnen hier erwähnt werden aber exemplarisch sei an dieser Stelle Martin Sheen alias Präsident Josiha "Jed" Bartlet (u.a. mit dem Golden Globe als bester TV-Darsteller einer Dramaserie ausgezeichnet) und Allison Janney alias Pressesprecherin C.J. Cregg (u.a. 4 Emmy Awards als beste Neben- und Hauptdarstellerin in einer Dramaserie) hervorgehoben. Nicht zuletzt diese beiden Tragen die Serie auf ihren Schultern und der restliche Cast zeichnet ein absolut stimmiges und überzeugendes Bild, welches einen schlicht und einfach in seinen Bann zieht. Die gesamte Serie hat eine Spielzeit von knapp 112 Stunden, verteilt auf 44 DVDs. Dazu finden sich über 5 Stunden Bonusmaterial in der Box, auf zwei separaten Bonus-DVDs, in denen unter anderem Interviews und Hinter den Kulissen Extras, sowie nicht ausgestrahlte und verpatzte Szenen enthalten sind. Die mir vorliegende Version der Staffelbox beinhaltet die Pappbox mit der Abbildung des Weißen Hauses und darin enthalten die 7 Staffeln, je als Slim-Box-Case (Standard DVD-Hüllen). Jeweils eine DVD ist darin in Deckel und Boden eingelassen, vier weitere in zwei Plastikhalterungen in der Mitte. Jede DVD liegt einzeln und nicht in Berührung mit anderen direkt übereinander. Dort sind sie sicher verstaut, lassen sich aber dennoch gut herausnehmen. Zudem ist ein 63 seitiges Booklet enthalten, auf dem die Episoden jeder Staffel aufgeführt sind. Dabei steht zu Beginn jedes Staffelabschnittes eine Auflistung mit dem Cast und ihren Rollen, es folgen eine Kurzübersicht über die Episodentitel und auf welcher Disc diese enthalten sind. Anschließend folgt eine detailliertere Aufführung zu den einzelnen Episoden, mit Titel, Autor, Regisseur und kurzer Inhaltsbeschreibung. Sogar die einzeln anwählbaren Kapitel sind betitelt und aufgelistet. "The West Wing" ist eine Serie für Zuschauer, die sich für das politische System der USA interessieren und möglicherweise auch schon ein wenig damit auskennen. Wer damit nichts anfangen kann ist hier sicherlich falsch aufgehoben. Doch auch bei Interesse ohne Vorwissen kann man jede Menge neues Lernen und einen spannenden und faszinierenden Einblick in die US-Politik erhalten. Das sprachliche Niveau der Serie ist natürlich äußerst hoch. Die Dialoge sind intelligent und beeindruckend geschrieben, mit vielen Verweisen auf gesellschaftliche, politische und juristische Charakteristika der USA. Teilweise findet der sprachliche Schlagabtausch darüber hinaus auch in sehr hohem Tempo statt. Für englische Neueinsteiger ist das womöglich etwas zu viel. Es empfiehlt sich daher bei Interesse vielleicht erst mal eine Folge oder die erste Staffel Probe zu testen, bevor man die gesamte Serie kauft. Mit deutscher Tonspur ist diese leider nicht zu erhalten. Wer jedoch bereits einige Folgen von "The West Wing" gesehen hat und nun begeistert und neugierig auf der Suche nach der gesamten Serie ist, kann hier beruhigt sein. Die Serie vermag ihr Niveau durchgängig zu halten und nicht selten sogar noch zu steigern. Mit immer wieder neuen und spannenden Geschichten fesselt jede einzelne Episode jedes Mal wieder. Für "The West Wing" gibt es daher 5 Sterne und selbst das ist eigentlich noch zu wenig.
