This worked as described
I rented a demo-hammer to remove tile and also used the hammer to remove a portion of thinset from a concrete floor. The hammer did not get the concrete smooth enough and still left raised areas of mortar. After lots of research I settled on using a grinder paired with a diamond pad. This dust shroud was perfect for the job. I hooked it to my Shop Vac and after getting a HEPA filter and fine particulate collection bag the process was much faster, yielded better results, and was less back breaking than the demo hammer. The only reason I gave four stars on suction power is because I did have to fill a little gap of the shroud by placing duct tape over it. Overall this was the way to go for my project and this shroud greatly reduced the amount of dust/debris in the air vs. what I experienced when I attempted the same thing with the demo hammer. I used the Makita GA-7021 along with Makita diamond pad and it had plenty of power, the diamond pad was expensive but well worth it. I also bought an adapter kit made by Rigid to connect the dust shroud to my Shop Vac because the output port of the shroud is smaller than the hose diameter of the vac.

This Shield Is A Necessity For Grinding Thin-Set Off A Sub Floor!
I bought this along with the Makita 9557PBX1 Angle Grinder to remove a crap ton of thin-set from a sub floor after we took up the tile from an old kitchen. I had been trying to remove the thin-set with a hammer but a lot of it was just not coming up so I looked up "How To Remove Thin Set from a Sub Floor" and found several videos that used a grinder along with this dust catcher. I have to say, this is one of the most useful items I've bought in awhile. I have a decent collection of power tools and accessories but this item is an essential if you are using a grinder on anything that produces a lot of dust.My only complaint was that I wish I had known that the expeller tube needs an adapter to fit on my shop vac. It's a pretty significant difference in size... and by the time I realized this, I was itching to get started... so.... thank heavens for Duct Tape! In the future I'll have the adapter at hand.....The shield attached relatively easily (I think it will be easier with time as I figure out how to hold the grinder and attach this when I don't have another pair of hands to help out) and it does a really decent job of keeping the dust to a minimum. If you are grinding down anything that might cause a lot of dust, I strongly recommend this shield. Your lungs will thank you for it....

Only Way To Remove Thinset
A great add on to a Makita grinder.Easy to install. I use a diamond concrete grinding blade, attach a vacuum, and remove thinset. Works awesome. I've used it on concrete floors and well as plywood sub floors.Does a fantastic job removing thinset.Fast and as dust free as you can get.Only complaint, the brushes around the perimeter should be longer to better contain the dust. I add a piece of duct tape , folded so it doesn't stick to the floor. I tape it to the base to make a better seal and it's virtually dust free.Awesome results.

Excellent dust control
This product was exactly what I needed and exceeded my expectations. I purchased this product to fit onto my Makita 7" grinder with a cupped grinding wheel. Initially I purchased the diamabrush brand grinding wheel with the replaceable teeth, which did not work well at all for removing Thinset or epoxy paint from concrete. The diamabrush wheel skipped all over the place and left large marks in the concrete instead of a smooth finish. One note about this attachment is that you have to use a cupped disc, there is not enough clearance to use a flat disc. I read all the reviews on this dust shield and others, and was a little afraid of the fiber skirt falling off like others said but it never happened to me after 1000 sq ft of Thinset removal. This dust shield does have a small discharge outlet, but I found that using a hose from a smaller shopvac fit perfectly, and was able to duct tape the other end to my large shop vac which kept the dust down to a minimum. I did have to remove the small piece that allows for getting really close to cabinets and walls. When the small piece is removed it does not collect dust very well. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase and I am impressed with the amount of dust control achieved with this product. Here are the pros and consPros: lightweight, durable composite material, removable outter piece that allows for close to wall grinding, dust skirt around the bottom, contoured inner grooves which channel the dust directly to the discharge outlet, easy installation.Cons: it is a bit pricey but ultimately worth it, small discharge outlet without accompaning adapter.Overall, this dust shield kept the dust down to a minimum and fit onto the Makita excellently. My main concern was silica from grinding the concrete. A few things to note for a do-it-yourselfer; it really pays to spend $20-$30 on bags for your shopvac if you want to really control the dust and prolong the life of your filters. If you own a shopvac brand, most of them will accept bags. If your shop vac has a small black plastic piece on the opposite side of where the hose is installed, you should be able to take that out and install a bag onto it and place that inside the shopvac. This not only prevents dust from clogging your filter, it also prevents dust from seeping outside of the seal where the motor unit sits on top of the bucket portion of the shop vac. It's well worth the money if you are concerned about keeping the dust down to a minimum. I still used 4mil plastic and painters tape to tarp off all the cabinets and rooms where there was no Thinset. Luckily we had nice warm weather and high winds that day so all the doors and windows were open to allow dust to migrate outside. The main reason I purchased the Makita grinder was because it had this attachment, and I figured it would probably be a good fit and it in fact did fit onto the grinder perfectly. I researched the universal ones and only read that the fit was marginal at best. I would highly recommend this for anyone removing Thinset or grinding down concrete. I opted for the 24 tooth rigid cupped grinding wheel, it was about $90 at Home Depot, comparable to here on Amazon. I didn't get from Amazon because I needed it that day when I discovered the flat disc wasn't compatable with this dust shield. I've attached a picture of the diamabrush disc that does not work with this dust shield attachment.I hope others find this review helpful! Good luck with your concrete grinding!!!

Fits Festool vacuum hose
Really great design and was able to grind a few parts of my slab flooring while my wife was working in the same room (with ear protection) very very little dust. Easy assembly to my 5” makita grinder

Very good unit.
I'm using this with a 4.5 inch Makita grinder. Fits like a glove. Highly recommend spending the few extra bucks for a shroud meant for the grinder you have. Even works without vacuum on (sprays out the hole in a stream) so is very good with a powerful vacuum. The spring mechanism and the clamp to lock in place are top notch. Easy spring back with a good amount of travel so your grinder can flow nicely with the wall and things stay flat for catching dust. Just find the best position with your vacuum first.I like the little sliding opening at the tip. I take this off when doing finiky edge work so I can see what I'm doing better and still doesn't spray too much dust.Very pleased with this item so far.

Expensive, but perfect
This is one of those items that hurts to buy, but once you have had to grind concrete without it then with it you will never go back. Works perfectly on reasonably flat surfaces though as others have mentioned when in really rough parts will lose contact. Go for it!

Excelente artículo pero...
Recomiendo que tengan una aspiradora de Gran potencia sino la guarda como tal no sirve para nada, la calidad del artículo es muy buena.

Must have if need to do any significant grinding.
The shroud works exceptionally well in capturing dust but this only gets you abouta 1/4 of the way there. I used this on a Makita 9525NB 4 1/2 grinder and it fitstightly w/o using any shims/hacks. It is very important these shrouds fit yourgrinder tightly w/o any rocking as they have some built in suspension to allow thebristles to maintain contact w/ the concrete surface. This shroud worked so well that Ifelt comfortable using it w/o a dust mask during some really hot days. You will also need:a) a FLAT diamond grinding wheel. I used the Waies 4-1/2" sold through Amazon. NOTEif you need to get flush to a wall you will need a 5" sized grinding wheel.b) probably an adaptor to fit your vacuum hose. I used the Bosch VAC003 to fit mine. The other things you have to consider are that this generates a fantastic amount ofvery fine concrete dust. Piping it straight to your shop vac clogs your filter inabout 5 mins. Then it takes forever to get the fine dust out of the filter. Using a bagsaves the filter but fills up a 5 gal Rigid shop bag in < 15 mins. Since I was doingan uneven garage floor I ended up adding the Oneida Dust Deputy which allowed me tofinish the floor w/o having to empty/clean the shop vac again.
