Great companion pieces for the series of books. Also great stand alone books.
FOR THOSE WHO ARE SAYING THE FULL STORIES AREN’T HERE: YOU'VE MISSED THE POINT OF THESE BOOKS!.These hard back books of the “I Survived” series are NOT meant to be replacements of the original stories. What’s in these hard backed books is not historical fiction like the original stories. What’s in these books is ACTUAL FACTS and NON-FICTION. (Her historical fiction also has facts and truth, I just wanted to stress the point that these books have even more factual information)IN THESE BOOKS the author gives us stories that she has researched and found from actual Survivors. Not from the point of view of a character that she came up with to appeal to kids. These books really are meant, in my eyes, as companion pieces to the stories that she wrote. These are full of even more info than her stories and with actual eye-witness testimonies. They are very interesting and held my 9 year olds attention (mine too!) as well as the original historical fiction books based on these disasters.I Highly recommend!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~And. now my review for her historical fiction books of the “I Survived” series...My 9 yo daughter has loved the I Survived series for a few years now. Truth be told, I do too.The stories are always about a kid (usually 11yo) who lives through historical disasters, and we learn about those disasters through his/her eyes. The tales are well-written and include facts- as well as historical fiction to hold the audience’s attention. They are exciting and sad; gripping and profound; tragic and heartwarming. You can always count on the main kid-character surviving...but not always the other people in the story.Your child and you will certainly come away with the intended morals:*War is Hell. (D day, Pearl Harbor, Gettysburg, American Revolution, Civil War etc)*People can be evil: (Hitler, 9/11, maybe in a few years, Trump will be a subject of one of her books)*The newest inventions aren’t always the best: (Titanic, Hindenburg)Don’t turn your back on nature: (Tsunamis, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, fires, floods)Animals are wild; don’t turn your back on them either:: (sharks, grizzlies)And molasses is...well. We are reading that one next.Really can not recommend enough.

Kids love it
I bought this book for 3rd graders to have access to historical reading that is also relatable. Thus far, it has been one of the most read books in the classroom. One of the most interesting stories within the book is the Great Molasses Flood in 1919. It's an event most people didn't even know had happened and finding a children's tale about it was a boon.

Not the I survived fictional stories.
I definitely did not read the info on this one carefully enough. I looked for the author and the name and thought I was getting a great deal! While it was not the books that I thought it was I am still extremely happy with my purchase and my nieces and nephew loved it!

5 fantastic stories for the natural disaster loving kid (or adult!) Great book!
I purchased this book for my son who is obsessed with weather and natural disasters. He absolutely loved this book! I actually read the book for myself and was amazed at how wonderfully well written it was. Not only did it have tons of descriptive details, we both loved that it was written about actual events in history. If you enjoy reading about natural disasters, this is the book for you! Not only do you get a great story, you get 5 great stories that will keep the pages turning.
