Repurchase after five years
As a long time vegan (nearly 20 years) I've always been looking for alternatives to leather in my daily life. In the early days I used plastic and canvas wallets but I don't like the idea of throwing plastic, and wallets only last a few years, so had always been looking for more environmentally friendly options. When I first purchase my first Corker wallet in 2013, there weren't many other brands doing cork wallets on the market. I don't know if this means that Corker invented the idea but that's why I bought Corker and I've been very happy with the performance of the wallet over the past five years. In fact it lasted way better than the leather wallets I've had in the past. However, it is now at the point where the cork has worn completely at the fold way and on the back to reveal the cotton(?) fabric beneath and is looking a bit tatty now.So the cork layer on these wallets is very thin. I guess you wouldn't want it any thicker as otherwise it'd resist folding in half. It does also wear pretty quickly around the corners on the folded part and then more slowly around the curve of the fold: this is definitely the weakest spot. It does take a while for the cork layer to wear and the wallet is still very usable even after much of the cork has worn out.So, anyway, my old, plain brown Corker wallet has worn to the point where it's getting a bit embarrassing, so after researching a few options (including these really cool looking recycle firehose wallets that I concluded are too expensive and too bulky) I decided to get another cork wallet. As I mentioned before, there's a fair bit of competition in the cork wallet market now (lol), and some of the competitors are a lot cheaper but I decided to go for a Corker anyway, as I'm happy with the quality of the previous one.Ordered zebra this time as it looks very funky. Bit like a zebra. They're pretty funky. And tall.Update 2018-11-14:So the new one has a number of design differences over the old one, as to be expected after such a long time period. The little cotton label I liked on my old one is gone, replaced with a printed logo on the exterior and a larger logo and name on the inside. Inside the wallet the velvet pocket material has given way to something furrier. There actually appears to be more cork and less other materials now that my previous one, for better or worse.I do like the way the internal pockets are now slanted, despite there being two fewer of them, and I actually prefer the single note pocket to the two on my previous wallet. The edges and corners of the wallet appear to have been finished very well with some kind of painted resin: I'll see how that holds up over time.Edit: Had this wallet a couple of years now. Inside the wallet still looks great, despite having lived in my trouser pocket for two years. Outside, however, the cork layer has been gradually peeling away the last month or so to reveal canvas underneath. Still functional but looks a bit tatty now. I guess two years is an OK lifetime for a wallet.
