Much improved WiFi
I bought a UM790 Pro a month ago. I had to replace a very old PC. My main use is photo editing, and the old one couldn't keep up with current software. This is lightning fast compared to what I'm coming from. Handles everything I throw at it like a champ. I even added an extra NVMe hard drive with no problems. But like many people have mentioned, the WiFi signal was pretty weak. And unfortunately, I can't move it closer to my router. I ordered an external USB WiFi adapter to compensate. Unfortunately, the PC inexplicably died within a week. Wouldn't even power on. So I returned it for a full refund. Hoping it was just bad luck, I ordered another. It seems Minisforum was paying attention to reviews and made an unannounced update to fix the WiFi. When I opened it up to put in my extra drive, I noticed that the WiFi antennas are no longer attached to the bottom plate, but fed somewhere higher in the PC (I didn't go digging around to find out where exactly.) So far, WiFi is working perfectly. My signal strength is markedly improved over the last one. Before, I couldn't even get the 5Ghz signal, and the 2.4Ghz band was pretty weak. Now, both bands are incredibly strong. I am super impressed. I don't need the external USB WiFi adapter for this one. Kudos to Minisforum for the update. Plus, it came installed with BIOS 1.07, and I updated the BIOS to 1.09 with no problems. It now lets you allocate 16Gb for VRAM. I am extremely pleased with the UM790 Pro. It's running strong. Doesn't even break a sweat with my biggest Photoshop/Lightroom files. I'll update if anything changes.

Powerhouse in a Small Package โ Minisforum UM790 Exceeds Expectations!
Iโve been using the Minisforum UM790 Mini PC for a few weeks now, and I can confidently say itโs been an outstanding experience. This little machine packs a serious punch! Iโm able to play all the games I want with smooth performance and solid frame ratesโeven more demanding titles run great with the right settings. Beyond gaming, itโs been a beast for video editing. My editing software runs flawlessly, and rendering times are surprisingly fast for such a compact system. Itโs rare to find this kind of performance in a mini PC, and the UM790 absolutely delivers. Build quality is solid, it stays cool and quiet, and the design fits perfectly on my desk without taking up space. Itโs truly a great all-around mini PC for anyone who wants power and versatility without the bulk. Best part? Iโm writing this review using it right nowโand it hasnโt missed a beat. Highly recommended for gamers, creatives, or anyone needing a reliable, high-performance compact PC!

The setup that just kept on surprising me (in a good way)
I don't generally write reviews (even though I often rely on them) - however, I picked this up on a lightning deal after briefly skimming the product page and looking at some high level specs as a replacement computer for my father. In the process of getting it set up for him, I realized what an absolute pile of very specific features come with the UM760 that (while mostly listed on the product page) were a very pleasant surprise at every turn to me (the ignorant buyer). - The Ryzen 5 7640HS comes with an NPU for AI related tasks - not important to me, but who knows if that could be useful in the future. - The 760M graphics chipset is no slouch, nice to have the AMD APU to lean on here at this price. - There are 2 SODIMM slots, and only one is taken up by a 16GB DDR5-5600 SODIMM - expandable with decent RAM without scrapping what comes with it. - There are 2 NVME drive slots, and only one is taken up by a 1TB SSD. This and the RAM slot make it VERY easy to double your capacities (or more) without being wasteful. - A 2.5GBe Ethernet Port! Nice! - HDMI 2.1 port - and it SHOULD be, but it's harder to come by than it should be. - An overly magical USB 4 port. Current and backwards thunderbolt compatible, with a special trick of accepting PD IN. This is in the picture on the product page (a giant frosted PD IN on the desk), I did not see it. I did not realize it until i unplugged the power cord and realized my TB3 dock was powering the machine. - Comes with Windows 11 Pro. It could have been Home, but they did it right and shipped it with Pro. Absolutely appreciated. I honestly couldn't come up with any cons for this machine, but that may change in time. It was honestly a refreshing experience to be pleasantly surprised by more and more thoughtful features and functionality all packed into this relatively inexpensive device, and knowing there's EASY expandability down the road. My father won't be taking advantage of all that this machine has to offer, but I find this machine as it is a steal at the $327 I snagged it for, and would likely purchase another at the regular $429 price, given the outstanding feature set available at this price point. Disclaimer: I'm absolutely in the honeymoon phase right now, and very much doe eyed over tech specs. Don't use this review as a long-term reliability decision. But if thoughtful features in a thoughtfully priced package matter to you, give this a go.

Excellent desktop replacement, but needs better fans
I built a AMD 7950X desktop with water cooled CPU. It ran very hot all the time, even when set the CPU to 65W and only running one VM. So I decided to try the UM790 PRO 64MB/1TB to reduce the heat in my office. I run linux on these boxes. I added a Samsung 990 Pro 4TB NVMe, and just recently removed the supplied 1TB NVMe as it was running hotter than I wanted (since I was not really using it). This has a 7950HS (laptop) CPU chip, so instead of 64 threads like the 7950X, it has 32. It has no HDD, so no mechanical parts, except for the 2 fans. I run 3 monitors, docking station, with 2-3 trading programs (updating all stock quotes every 3 seconds), many tabs in firefox and chrome, and monitor several servers. I back up nightly critical file server and VM files. This machine handles it all with no problem and maintains a cool and (was) quiet environment. I don't realize the 32 vs 64 threads difference. I probably run 5-10% CPU most of the time, that is how fast this CPU is. CPU runs maybe 45C/114F. Samsung 990 Pro runs 37C/98F. Recently, like I think many people after 6 months to 1 year, one of the fans has started to have issues after less than a year. It was dead quiet in the past, but now has a wobble and makes enough noise to be noticeable in a quiet room. Getting a replacement fan is a problem, the fan manufacturer doesn't sell it anymore but maybe available in China, and will likely require soldering wires to use the special connector is a second bigger problem. Even minisforum has changed the fan they use for new models. I get a mini computer or laptop needing custom fans to cram into a tight space, but wish replacements were easily available. In short, going to be a difficult time replacing the fan. Except for the new fan issue, I love this mini computer. It has changed my mind about mini computers vs desktop computers. Desktops are still good for file servers and burning BDs. This computer is fast, capable, expansive, lots of features: all around a great machine. This computer deserves more than 5 stars with a good fan and maybe 3 stars with the fan issue.

This thing is great!
It's a workhorse, it performs very very well. It arrived quickly. It's priced well. It's really been great. UPDATE: It's now two years later and I'm still using the machine. That said, I did have to replace the fan (The design means that the fan runs a lot and so it wears out quite quickly). The nice people at Minisforum sent me a new CPU fan and two Drive Bay Fans for the price of shipping, which was great of them. But if this fan goes I expect it'll be very difficult to get another one, so I'm anticipating I have a year and six months (Approximately) of use out of the machine left before I have to replace it, not because it's a bad machine but because getting the parts may be impossible. I might be able to make some other plan to make sure the machine has a workable cooling setup for the CPU, so it might not be the end of the road. But I can say safely that the tower case machine I bought back in 2014 is still going strong and will carry on for another few years at least, and since everything in it has a generic replacement even if something does go I can probably replace it. The ROI on the tower case is many times the anticipated ROI on the mini PC. If Minisforum can get a support network up and running or are able to find parts distributors or manufacturers who can provide after market parts for the hardware that would solve the problem entirely. It might be a factor of the newness of the hardware or the newness of the business in general. That said, on the now 12 year old tower PC I haven't had to replace the fan. It's a consideration if you're evaluating getting one of these which is great but would be willing to spend a little more (About 20% more) and get a machine that has existing support and aftermarket infrastructure (so to speak).

DOA but worked after Troubleshooting, would still recommend
I like it, but did have trouble at first. Would not power on, reset Ram, HD and finally got power. Reset HD again and she worked. The mouse input had some trouble at first, figured it just had not finished starting up an came around to correct input with clicking the mouse. That worked itself out. When I went to check settings in the BIOS, I could not get to the Advanced Menu (? limited knowledge here) delete-> Bios-> hold Alt and F5-> then F10 to save ( this didn't work). When you go back in the BIOS you have the Advanced menu. I had already had that, but what I was after was the AMD fTPM settings. Very quiet and I really am enjoying it now.

Passed Cinebench test
Appears to be a very solid product, passing a 10 minute Cinebench stress test after logging in and updating. Max temp was essentially 92.3 C, which AI says is fine because it is rated to 100. Can't say the same for a cheaper near equivalent Beelink mini that I had to return before buying this one. Note that if you replace the shipped Windows Home with Windows from MS via a flash drive the wifi drivers will not be there and, despite being in IT for most of my career, needed Google Gemini Pro to guide me through the process that worked. Very quiet too. Compact and light as a feather.

Brilliant! Best Bang For Your Buck & High End Computer
This computer runs really, really well even though it's small and quiet. It has all of the ports I need, including enough USB's and dual monitors. I really think this product has it all. Brilliant!

Been using this miniPC for a while.
Great performance compared to the last one I bought before this. Nice and powerful for a mini PC and reasonably affordable. I especially like that the USB ports are all high speed. Why even put USB2 ports on a modern device? It's 2025! Just go with USB3! Good design choice!

Poor Product
I'm giving this product 0 stars, I have been having issues with the UM790 Pro now for over a year, I purchase this product late 2024, & less than a year later I started having issues with the ethernet connection, I reported this to minisforum, & followed their instructions to correct the issue, but it kept on going. I kept sending them email, but now they are ignoring them!!! Lately the unit started freezing, & a physical shutdown is required to fix this!!!! I have asked them numerous times to replace the unit, & emails go into the Abys!!!

Small yet powerful
Great product - small form, quite, I leave it on pretty much 24/7 and when I'm asleep I don't even hear it. Basic games like cs2 plays well on a medium setting. Very satisfied for what I needed.
