Best bang for your buck, even after years of use.
Bought this to go backpacking in Iceland during the summer. Has seen several weeks worth of backpacking on different terrain and still basically new, so its durable. Ridiculously easy set-up, and a standalone so you can still sleep in it if you can't use stakes. The rainfly has guarded against hellish mountain winds and the desert sun.For a backpacking tent it comes in heavy at around 5.7 lbs, but split between two people with the footprint, fly, stakes and poles included it drops to around 2.85 lbs which is just a little bit heavier than some of the more popular Big Agnes backpacking tents, but at more than half the cost.As a 2 person tent there is just enough space inside after your stretch out with your pads and sleeping bags for each of your boots and waterbottles, and a couple odds and ends. If you're backpacking your packs will have to stay outside. Should be noted that if you are using the footprint and not a tarp, the footprint doesn't cover the vestibule space so your packs will be straightup on the grass. We managed to fix this by stacking our packs on top of each other with our rain covers on the top and bottom. Could also just put down a big garbage bag to set them on since those pack down small and weigh nothing. Should also also be noted that this is pretty standard for backpacking tents. So all in all, as a backpacking tent its a good, durable, cheap option that weighs a lot more than most backpacking tents, but is an acceptable weight when shared with another person.UPDATE 2021: Few years later and this tent is still going strong. No signs of wear. The only terrain I haven't thoroughly tested it against is snow. Reliable. I keep intending to buy a fancier, slightly bigger, ultralight Agnes tent but I just can't find enough of a complaint with this one to justify buying a second tent when this one works so well. Still highly recommend.

Salida 2 = Best Lightweight Budget Tent
I spent a significant amount of time researching tents and viewing the numerous options. I am confident in saying that you would have to spend at least $100 more to get a 2 person tent that even comes close to the performance and value of the Kelty Salida 2.Here is why the Salida 2 is a great tent:It's light at 4.5 pounds! It's not an ultralight, but it is light and durable (which ultralight tents can't compete with). It's spacious! The tent is longer and wider (at the shoulders) than many other 2 person tents. I can fit two 23 inch wide sleeping pads in the tent. If you are solo backpacking there is plenty of room for your gear inside the tent or in the large vestibule. It's simple! It has 2 polls and no hub. Read reviews about the REI Half Dome tents and you will be shocked at how many people complain about the poles breaking at the hub! Your trip would be over if that happened. Also, this tent can be fully set up in under 5 minutes. It's weather tight! This tent needs to be guyed out for proper ventilation. When done so properly the rain and wind have no effect on this tent, and condensation should be a non issue. I actually like that this tent doesn't have a vent in the rain fly. Tents that have that feature tend to also have reviews stating that rain got into the tent when wind was a factor. This is a non issue with the Salida 2.If you plan to do most of your backpacking solo and you care about weight and comfort, there is NOT a better tent in this price range. Also, if you want to bring someone with you, you still have that option! And if you do bring someone, you can split the weight of the tent you would be down to nearly 2.25 pounds for each person. IF you really do plan to have another person in the tent on most trips you may want to consider something with 2 doors for convenience. Mountainsmith Morrison 2 or the REI Passage 2 are great tents with similar attributes to the Salida weighing around 5.5 pounds. However, if you are a solo backpacker whose top priority is to save weight AND wants the option of bringing another person with you there is nothing that even competes with the Kelty Salida 2 at this price point.

Light weight, low cost, good quality
So far so good, this tent has held up good on quite a few backpacking trips. For a 2 person tent the price/weight ratio is good for what you are getting, they only downside is there is only one door but big deal. Tent packs down nice and small and everything is good quality. Definitely recommend this tent, it's perfect for 3 season hiking and camping

Very solid and easy to use tent
Very solid and easy to use tent, ideal for one person back packing.Withholding fifth star because it always felt like the top cover didn't quite fit - perhaps it's meant to be that way, but it always looked a little awkward. The unconventional pegs are also a bit of a quirk - they are robust and light, but can still be bent, and need to be pushed right into the ground to hold a peg loop down.
