Oyen Digital 16TB SSD MiniPro RAID V3 USB-C Portable Solid State Drive - Updated 07/17/2022
This product gets my personal 5-9’s, (99.999%), nearly-perfect rating. I just wonder if it could be slightly improved by the addition of the same silicone-sleeve that the mobile, mechanical, spinny-disk models come with to further increase ruggedness? I mean, I know this model with the SSD’s isn’t nearly as subject to shock as the “Winchester Disk,” (legacy, classic name for mechanical hard drives, like “Kleenex” is to facial tissue), models, but it might make me feel a bit better about carrying around a $2,100 drive. I doubt it will affect heat, as this thing runs cool. 1-MONTH OLD: UPDATE: I’m an old, perfectionist-type I.T. guy, and I just can’t find anything bad about my Oyen MiniPro RAID 16TB USB. It even works great with my Netgear Router, “ReadyShare,” which can be somewhat finicky about the USB device you plug into it. So there it serves as my Network’s super-fast multimedia/gaming storage, (who needs a big ol’ RAID server?) when we head out on a trip it goes with us. Fast, cool, compatible, spacious, rugged...I can’t think of anything bad to say about it. Thanks Oyen! :-). Oh, and the Wife even likes the looks of it! LOL UPDATE 07/17/2022: I did have the RAID crash, erasing all the data, but I’m not sure it was the drive’s fault. I called tech support, which was excellent and very accessible, who convinced me to change my RAID configuration from “BIG” to “RAID0” for speed. It’s been running fine since. Being in I.T., I do have several backups of my data in different locations. I bought a 2nd drive as our first 16TB drive we use for media is full. I was archiving all our older multimedia, and expect our growth curve to flatten from here on out. So we’re very happy with Oyen Digital!!!

Small is Good
I have been switching from a PC to the new Mac mini and wanted a new raid box for the new system. After searching many possibilities the Mini Pro Raid V3 seemed like a great choice. First I had to change the file type of all my files on the PC. I copied the old raid into a 4TB HDD formatted as XFAT.This new raid box is 1/5 the size of the old one and very well made. I ordered one with 10TB of storage and prepared it as RAID 1 (mirrored) to copy my 2TB files into. The process was very straight forward and the unit mounted perfectly. There was one glitch, totally mine! Only one light (HDD) was flashing and I contacted their support. I received an immediate email with instructions. I HADN'T HELD THE RESET BUTTON QUITE LONG ENOUGH. The support person helped me through reinitializing the unit on the Mac mini (I never had a Mac before) and all is perfect again. This is a great alternative to a huge RAID enclosure and I am very satisfied!

Fast disk
This hard drive is the best purchase I have done in a long time. I am a professional DIT and I needed a solution to use on set to copy the media and have a backup in real time. This is easily done with the raid 1. This hard drive could be used as a Raid0 and reach read/write speed around 250mbps, which is really good for fast turn around. The Raid 1 is what works for me despite I having half of the disk size (5tb) and reach 130mbps writing speed but I would have 2 copies at the same time which works for me. The hard disk could be connected via usbc or usb3 which is awesome to have the option. Also it could be powered up with a power plug or USB-C at a flick of a switch. I recommend this hard drive to everyone serious about having a solid platform to copy and secure data.

Future could be a 6-star product.
Wanted to love it, but it died within three weeks. Nice unit. Extremely (non-existent) ability in inquire device status in anyway other than the limited blinking light indicators. You cannot query device as to what percent a silvering is in -- which with the 10TB model can take many days to perform. Device really needs to be updated with the ability to quick swap failed drive using screw-less technology on both the case and drives. The drive configuration switch needs to be recessed deeper, including the power source switch -- both make me wonder what would happen to your data if accidentally switched during transport. I would not recommend the 10TB model, and go with the diskless unit if you buy, and then get the identical Seagate 5TB drives RETAIL branded. The enclosed drives are OEM and in the event you have to deal with a warranty concern 18 months down the path, it is my option dealing with Seagate would be faster and lower cost to resolve (just my 40 years IT experience speaking). My impression of the manufacturing company is good and they responded to questions within their posted response time. If I was Oyen Digital I would figure out how to bundle RETAIL drives with the device and not OEM. I do have one serious concern regarding documentation that came with the unit regarding the USB 3.1 Type-C cable with it stating to ONLY USE this CABLE. Why? It implies to me using any other USB Type-C cable could cause damage to the unit -- that's my impression. If it was possible for them to provide a way to query the device status and get detailed information on silvering, each drive S.M.A.R.T. status and the like and the above recommendations this would be the "GOTO" travel device for everyone needing external storage.

Quick, Silent, Fast, Encrypted, And Quiet
Don't let the small size of this disk drive fool you! This small beauty packs 4 TB of SSD memory! And it's all packed in a beautiful (yes, good looks do count) aluminum case. If you do your arithmetic, you are likely to find less expensive drives in the market, but done will be as efficient and quiet with such a small footprint.

Case seems clunky
This drive seems to perform well and do what it is advertised to do.My main complaint is that the innards are not terribly well-secured within the case, and thus rattle a bit. Makes the whole thing seem cheap and thrown together. Honestly a few bits of double-stick tape here and there inside would go a long ways towards making it seem solid. That said, so far so good. There are some switches on the back that you won't want to accidentally jiggle after initially setting them, so I put some clear tape over those to make sure that didn't happen while traveling. All in all, this does what I need and I'm satisfied.
