would be fun for kids....confusing and unhelpful for adults looking for edible/medicinal plants.
This was just OK..... after reading the author bio, it makes me wonder if this was written for children/tweens. Even so, the info about the few plants in this book are so generalized as to be almost useless. They have a few fun historical and geographical facts about each plant and that's pretty much it. Some pages mention vague references of some native Americans uses for the plant, but no real knowledge on how we can use them.... I get that one can use this plant or that for some medicinal or edible purposes, but HOW? How do you make a tea from this plant? Do you do so with the flower bud? the leave? the root? the stem? Are there parts that should be avoided? For example, the Indian Paintbrush was described as being used by the Navajos as a tea to help upset stomachs (no mention of how we can make a tea out of it though), and then in the very same paragraph it talks about how the Cherokee used it as a poison to "destroy their enemies". Huh? Very confusing....not very helpful. It does have good photos and seems like it would be a fun read for some elementary age kids if you want to take them out to look for certain kinds of plants.

Poorly written book
There is very little that the cover mentions inside the book. No details at all. Pathetic attempt tok k do something good and it turned into a disaster. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE WHO IS SERIOUS ABOUT THE TITLE OF THE BOOKS SUBJECT!!!

Super Plant Book!
Another lovely plant book from Sara Barnard. Great pictures and wonderful, down-home information. I like learning the fun stuff about some of our great state's most interesting plants! Check out The ABCs of Oklahoma Plants, too. Both would make excellent additions to a classroom library!

Good Book
Good book! I have NOW KNOW the ABCs of Texas. If you spend any time out doors in Texas at a park, walking trails, on a ranch, farm or deer lease, this is a must have.

Great book about Texas edible and medicinal plants.
Great Photos help with identifying the plants. I also like that the book is small enough to carry with you easily when you are out searching.
