Inspiring stories
I have read almost every book that Michie has written, so I have high expectations when starting a new one by him. They always leave me inspired, thoughtful and joyful. This book certainly did not disappoint! I also enjoyed the short stories format, giving different food-for-thought opportunities.

Like this author a lot!
I personally liked a couple of the stories in this book, but mostly I didn't like it as much as his other work. Somewhat gratuitous sexual activity descriptions didn't really appeal to be. Just leave it to the imagination... Didn't add to the story in my opinion.

Beautiful Collection of Short Stories about How to Live
Each of these stories is beautifully told, and each reminds us in a compelling way of how to live with love, compassion, joy, and peace. While we all want these things, sometimes a story told by an artful, engaging, and humorous storyteller like David Michie, with characters we can really relate to, helps this to sink in. Great read for anyone seeking a bit more happiness!

Very fun book, with nuggets of wisdom sprinkled throughout. I read it in one afternoon, reluctant to put it down.

Don’t expect the Dalai Lama’s cat
This is a collection of short stories or, more accurately, parables. Don’t expect the development of the Dalai Lama’s cat stories. Don’t expect the development of the Magician of Lhasa. The stories are decent, but they lack the roundedness and completeness you expect from David Michie’s fiction. It seems that each story has barely started when it is resolved. There is a total lack of character development and story development. The stories end too soon. They have good teachings, but they’d be much better if they were part of a fuller story.I am a fan of David Michie’s books. I’ve read the Magician of Lhasa, the Queen’s Corgies, and the Dalai Lama’s Cat stories. However, this is not on par with those. It is similar to a couple of the non-fiction books Michie has written. From those, I’ve been left dissatisfied because of the simplification Michie uses. I got the same feeling when reading these parables. It seems as if he is trying to tell people meditation and Buddhism are easy-peasy and that, 6 weeks after you start, you will be a totally changed person. I’ve been meditating for a number of years and I can tell you it’s not an easy journey. Change is definitely not that fast. Yes, you will have beginner’s luck and may even have some unexpected experiences. However, the reality is the journey is a lifelong journey, and you may not reach the end by the end of your life. I do wish Michie would give a more realistic picture in some of his writings, including these parables. Coincidences, or whatever you want to call them, don’t start happening after you first start meditating. Everything doesn’t resolve in 20 pages. Developing the stories more would allow for a more nuanced picture.

A Treasure To Behold
Not only of, but embracing all of his books, author David Michie truly is a Treasure To Behold. I immerse myself in all his books, and "The Astral Traveler's Handbook' is but one amongst my favorites of all his other treasured mindful books. I cannot repeat myself enough to celebrate & embrace this precious soul known to us as David Michie.

Must a read
I love the idea of Buddhism bed time stories. Stories are long enough to take you on the ride to the world of subconscious mind. Reading them before going to sleep has helped me to come over my cellphone addiction. As usual David Michie is my favorite author who had introduced me to the world of Buddhism. Looking forward for book 2.
