Received the Whirley Pop aluminum model with metal gears today. I immediately registered it with Whirley Pop to activate the 25 year warranty. I washed it, seasoned it and poured in the Wabash Valley Farms popping kit that comes with the Whirley Pop. Used it on a gas stove set on medium heat. My first impression was that the unit seemed too thin and lightweight. However, I now believe that it may be constructed this way in order to more quickly transfer heat into the popcorn kernels. I was amazed at how fast it is to pop a batch of popcorn. The popping kit made it very easy, with the kernels, coconut oil, and popcorn salt all in one pouch. Just cut it open, pour it in and you're ready to go. I won't be purchasing any additional 'popping kits' however, after I see how much they cost. Definitely worth it to purchase kernels, oil and some Flavacol salt, and measure them out yourself. Much cheaper. The metal gears on the Whirley Pop operate smoothly, with no binding. The lid is easy to remove for cleaning, and while it does seem like some thin gauge aluminum, it does feel like it should last for years. Time will tell. The popcorn itself is much better looking and tasting than microwave popcorn, which is mostly all I've eaten for many years. I'm happy with this purchase, and would recommend this product if you're a popcorn enthusiast like myself. I will update if I have any issues with this product.

I am so pleased with this purchase! I’ve never had more delicious popcorn, and the popper is way to use. It’s fun to crank the handle, too. Weird? Haha! I was surprised at how light weight the pot is, so I am careful not to drip it in fear of denting it. I also wish it were dishwasher safe. Cleaning it can be a bit of a pain, because I don’t like washing dishes by hand. However, that doesn’t stop me from using the heck out of this things I do prefer using my own pipcorn, oil, and seasoning, as I find the pre made packets expensive and too salty. I use coconut oil which gives the popcorn a nice flavor.

I bought this back in November (also ordered some Amish popcorn on Amazon at the same time) as a Christmas gift for our 3 young children. The reviews seemed a bit mixed, but I figured it was a popcorn maker, how bad could it be? The kids love it. We have used it 5-6 times since we opened it Christmas morning and no problems. Cooks all the kernels every time and is fun and easy to use. The popcorn movie stuff that comes with it is decent, but it is SALTY! We prefer the fresh Amish popcorn we bought with a little bit of salt. Overall very happy with the product. 3-4 minutes for fresh popcorn. It is almost effortless. I see were people think the metal is a bit flimsy, but it's a popcorn maker for God's sake, as long as it easily makes popcorn who the hell cares. Anyway, if you have kids and like to eat popcorn that isn't covered in weird microwave stuff, I highly recommend it.

I wanted a better popcorn popper; we've been using an Orville Redenbacher microwave popper since they first came out, probably at least 20 years. It's held up that long. But I missed the crunchy popcorn gotten from the stove top, and the taste. After seeing all of the rave reviews on the Whirley Pop, I ordered the one with metal gears. While waiting for it to arrive, I watched Youtube videos of people using theirs. I was a bit worried, because when they pour out the popcorn, it looks like they got far less than the 24 cups promised from the half cup of kernels they used. Anyway, the popper arrived today. I put in 1 TBL Ghee, a full 1/2 cup of Orville R's popping corn, and put my gas stove top at medium heat. My faith was fully restored when the corn popped, actually lifting the lid!! This popper was so full, I had to coax the corn out. It piled into my biggest metal bowl (and it's BIG), and I had to leave at least a quart of popped corn in the popper since it wouldn't fit in the bowl! This popper is amazing. The popcorn was crisp, and it tasted so much like movie popcorn I actually checked the sodium content of the ghee I used. The ghee did not have any salt at all!! (I can't eat salt, it makes me puff up like a water balloon, lol.) I plan to give all 5 of my grown children these for Christmas. They'll love it too!!

Great value for money

My family has had a whirley pop for years and they last forever and create delicious popcorn. I bought one for myself since moving out recently and I LOVE this product. It's easy to use and a great price. I have enjoyed many batches of popcorn and this has made me greatly happy. If you're thinking about buying it- Do it! Your life will be changed for the better.

This is the best popcorn I've ever made at home. It is a bit more work than the microwave kind, but very worth it in my opinion. Mixed with any type of oil and Gold Medal Flavacol popcorn seasoning, this popcorn will impress anyone coming to your movie night at home.

I can't count how many epic batches of popcorn I've made with my whirley pop. It's a fantastic popcorn making tool! Careful on ceramic stove tops though as it can scratch it up over time (just like with any metal bottomed cooking dish). We just bought a small coil burner to plug in for when we want popcorn. I'm a popcorn fanatic, do I use everything from coconut oil to beef tallow and Flavacol. Consider mixing your oil and corn kernels and seasoning (e.g., Flavacol) together before adding to the Whirley Pop. Then add a tiny bit if oil to the pot right before you add the kernels. Also, I highly recommend you buy yourself some truffle salt to add to your popcorn! I *ONCE* had an issue with my Whirley Pop close to a decade after buying it. Customer service was super friendly and sent me out a replacement part without issue. What an awesome company!

I have a vague notion I've seen images of this somewhere. Old magazine adverts? Saw it on sale here and bought one. Went whole hog, got some of ol' Orville Redenbacher's "Original," some Amish Country Popcorn Coconut Oil, and some Gold Medal Flavacol Seasoning Salt. Excellent! Under three minutes from start to finish, and delightful to eat. Gotta love the '50s vibe — but the design goes back even farther than that. Apparently they've been around since the 1920s! They must be doing something right. Glad I got one.
