The Far Side of the Moon: A Photographic Guide

A nicely composed photographic guide to the rear side of the moon. The near side is well covered by several other volumes of images, but this is the only volume I am aware of that devotes itself exclusively to the side of the moon earthbound observers never see. Plenty of crisp, detailed photos of the rear side, arranged by region. Excellent accompanying text concerning the history of the moon, spacecraft missions to the moon, and explanations of the photos. Just be aware that the explanation for the divergence in appearance between the near and far sides of the moon (in Chapter 13) is only a theory, and not yet widely accepted in the scientific community. A delightful and rewarding work, either as a reference or for a languid perusal.

The book itself is fine. But according to the back-cover text, a “FREE CD included with the book contains all the enhanced and cleaned photographs for screen viewing, lectures, etc.”There was no CD included with the “as new” book I received.

We've all seen the photos and movies from the photographic and manned missions to the moon - almost all of them focusing on the familiar craters and mare on the side we see. This terrific photo essay goes literally 180 degrees opposite,and details images of the side of the moon facing away from Earth. Since the moon rotates at the exact rate it revolves around the Earth, no humans except the U.S. Apollo astronauts have ever seen the side that faces away. Outstanding imagery of a very different look. You would hardly know you are looking at the same body. I understand that this was a limited publication, but anyone interested in the Moon should search out a copy....it's great.

Just beginning to get into book but have already learned more than I expected. I am not a scientist but have a great interest in the far side of our moon; great history of photographs and NASA missions. Great resource.

Mission report on the second U.S. orbital flight is beautifully illustrated with both black and white and color pictures of this historic spaceflight and contains a wealth of technical information as well.

The photos in the book are all in black and white and the quality is terrible! Do not buy! the book is a version in great demand so it was not well finished, if there was a better version I would buy it!

Excellent book on the photographic guide

Ricchissimo di immagini del lato nascosto della Luna, di ottima qualità rispetto agli originali dell'epoca, non può mancare nella libreria di ogni appassionato di astronomia e in particolare della Luna: consigliato.

la face cachée de la Lune n'a été découverte qu'en 1959 et seuls 24 astronautes l'ont contemplée de visu, il manque une carte globale pour en avoir une vision d'ensemble, mais plus grave la page iv de couverture précise qu'un dvd est inclus avec le livre : mais il n'y avait pas disque, où est-il passé ?
